Hey all, I am looking to get back into riding and dont need anything too crazy. I am looking at this Specialized FSR Sport on ebay, and wanted some opinions. I believe it is a '99. He will take $450 for it, and I wanted to know if it is worth that, or should I be looking elsewhere/newer model? I am 5'10", athletic 220lbs, and like long walks on the beach. Interesting mix of high-end wheels and lower-end FSR. With the ugly-long stem and the boat-anchor tractor seat and everything else stock, I would say $450 is at the outer limits of what it's worth. The frame itself is fine but the stock RS Deluxe shock may be a bit long in the tooth as far as life expectancy.

Thanks for the advice, do you have any suggestions given my size, and the fact that I will be riding around town mostly with occasional weekend trail rides? Something used in the $3-$500 range, hardtail?

As much as I'm an advocate for full-suspension, for your purposes in that price range, a decent hardtail would fill the bill. Something along the lines of a Giant Rincon - - new, mind you - - is at the upper end of that range and is a cut above something like the Boulder SE (also a fine bike).

You're going to encounter a lot of choices, so be sure to just get out and ride a few, pick the one that has the best 'feel' to you.
