Bit the bullet and picked a fork.

I finally got sick of thinking about what fork to get for my Sette Shadow so I snagged a 55 r from Jenson for 209 out the door. I did this over buying used to a) get a brand new fork and b)make sure I get a warrenty c) it was a damn good price.

I talked to a guy that wrote a review of the frame on MTBR who is running an 140mm AM 2 fork and he said he wouldn't consider running a fork with less travel so I figured what the hell.

The AC on a dj1 (that I was also considering) is 490mm on the 55r its 521mm, considerable but not to huge. I also figured out that it is pretty easy to lower the fork if need be. I think this will work out well and not throw off the geo to much.

I need to say thanks to chelboed for the idea of the HTFR build and the fork. I hope we can ride soon. Bring the hick too. :thumb:

Hmm...I don't think you can lower it any more. I believe it's set at 140mm and can be extended to 160. (Unless you wanna MickeyMouse it ;))

Let me know what you think of the fork. My frame is feeling a bit bland when it comest to turning. Plus it feels a bit weak IMO. It's probably more than fine for the small crap I'm doing, but peace of mind is needed. Plus for 120$ I could sell my current frame and probably make money. Or, I could break my frame, get a new warranty frame, sell that as a new frame, and get another one. . . Not sure how logical any of that is, but I dont care.

I found this post,(http://forums.mtbr.com/showpost.php?...3&postcount=30) and from the looks of it adding a spacer on the bottom would control how far the stanchions can extend.

I also found this http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/2768917/

I stand corrected...that's a "down low" 55

I like the 140mm setup but wouldn't mind trying out the 160 at some point.

yellowjeep 12-29-08 02:32 PM

I don't think I'll be able to get away with 160 but I wouldn't mind trying out 120 at some point but I think I will just ride it the way it is for now.

Yah...you know Kansas doesn't have the "extended DH" crap that other fortunate (spoiled) places get to enjoy:( Still has to be XC'able.

theextremist04 12-29-08 05:36 PM

yeah, it kinda sucks. although they're putting in a longer "downhill" run at landahl. it's shaping up to actually be decent. and downhill most of the time, too!

That frame/fork combo looks amazing in BW.

yellowjeep 01-06-09 08:17 PM

The build is shaping up to be all black not by design though

Edit. Almost forgot the bars

S.D.XC 01-06-09 08:42 PM

i thought the decals were painted on???

yellowjeep 01-06-09 08:45 PM

Well they are under clear anyway, come to think of it, you cant really feel them when you run a fingernail over it. The picture really exaggerates it

ed 01-06-09 08:50 PM

Stealth style...diggin it dood.

Can't wait to see the rest. What you need is just a hint of gold on that black beast...RF Diaboluse X-Type BB cups...Maybe gold hubs...or black hubs/spokes/rims...but gold nipples

YES!! I LOVE GOLD NIPPLES!

yellowjeep 01-06-09 08:53 PM

there is an idea

G-man45 01-06-09 10:45 PM

.

Cool to see someone else putting together a Shadow - Looks cool so far! I dig the black stanchions on the fork, you'll have to post your impressions once you ride it. Interested to see it complete too.

Here's mine in winter mode, with Nokian Studded tires... The build will change as it gets warmer out (bars, stem, brakes, maybe wheels). Apologies for crap photos.

Looks good man but where the heck were you when I was asking about the frame like 2 months ago...

Your bike does look really good. Mine will be a while before its done, gotta to pay for books. At least this will be a lighter semester so I can put in more hours.
