Tire sizes

I need to increase the size of my current tires from 2.2 to ?? I was wondering if I could fit them how big can I go before it becomes a negative performance issue?I wanted to get 2.3-2.4? Cross Country use Hard tail

I think the main performance issue you would encounter is weight, which has improved lately for fat fatty tires. My rule of thumb for XC riding is to use the fattest I can find under or around 600 grams.
