Which year model to get - Trance vs TranceX vs other
So I am a roadie turned to the mountain. Ive been looking to finally upgrade my old beater Ive been using (a Med frame for someone 6'3"... needless to say, Ive done plenty of endo's) for trails, singletrack, and a little technical stuff.
Ive been hanging out at my favorite LBS that happens to have Giants, Spec's, and even some strange Bionicon? (Some german frame that has literally a button near the shifters that changes the geometry midride from aggressive, to sitting back like a freeride bike).
Anyhow, Ive somewhat narrowed it down to a few NOS they have collecting dust on a shelf and wanted suggestions on the better deal, or if it was worth paying for the upgrade. From forum searches, aside from those that hate Giant's, the Trance seems well liked, and a fair component spec for the buck.
My options are between a 2007 Trance 4 for $840 ( I could only find the 2006 spec online though)
https://archive.giant-bicycles.com/us...06&model=11269
Or a 2008 Trance X1 for $1500 (which seems like the 2009 TranceX2 when looking at components)
https://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-US/...in/2272/32146/
Thoughts or personal experiences? I know normally there is the well known 'best value' on the road forum that varies every few weeks (Competetive Cyclist had a steal on a Ridley for the longest time), and am open to looking at alternate suggestions.

I personally own an 08 trance and I love it but I do know that the older trance frames were a good deal heavier than the newer style.
With that being said I almost wish I would have got the trance x for its slightly longer travel and slacker angles. Around here we have alot of super rocky/technical trails and we tend to do long back country type rides. I have ridden a trance x and it climbs just as well as my trance, it just had a very up right ridding position that I didnt like (even with all the spacers out)
Between the two you posted the trance x1 is leaps ahead of the trance 4 so thats even more reason to go that route.
