New Frok Pron

OK - - package came in today USPS straight from Taipei. Another came from Portland about three weeks ago; but, alas, contained the wrong item. But it made a great opportunity for a little comparo.

Both 2009 models of the redesigned RST R1 dual crown: R-One Pro and R-One Super. Pro is very similar to previous R-1s with the addition of a Boxxer-compatible bolt pattern in the top crown for a direct-mount stem. R-1 Super gets Extreme Makeover Frok Edition with semi-open oil bath, rebound and compression damping and the Boxxer-compatible drilling.

Siblings

R-One Pro (rebound damping only)

R-One Super

Compression damping

Rebound in the bottom

Will install the Super as soon as I can order my Sunline Boxxer direct-mount stem (that will get a set of Sunline 29er bars as long as I'm at it). Stems are out of stock at the moment. Then, if the snow ever subsides, I'll wring it out and post a ride report.

Has RST USA given up or something? The rstmtb.com site has been down for quite some time now.

Anyway, nice looking forks.

Yeah, they kinda disbanded. Aaron Lutze, who headed it up, is a videographer and got a gig last summer doing all of the World Cups with Freecaster TV. They've got even more stuff going now, so he's switched 'day jobs.' Not sure what Alex and Patrick are going to do.

There will still be a state-side presence but it hasn't taken shape yet as far as I can tell. Warranty service is going to be handled by Gallop, which handles some other brands too. Not sure if they'll have a sales presence.

Hahahaha...I need more Java!

Pretty Frokking kewl, man!

I'd be interested in hearing how the new Rone compares to something like a Boxxer, 888, or Fox 40.

Any insight, Guod?
