Hi Guys

I was wondering can I use my small shop compressor to inflate my tires If I set the outlet pressure low? I have a GT aggressor and Im pretty sure that they are scharder valves ( I think there called ) and can I just use the air chuck that came with it for inflating car tires?

Any help would be great

If you have Schrader valves (standard car type) you can inflate them easily. Just do it in quick shots. Don't clamp the chuck onto the valve, because it won't take long to fill the bike tire. I wouldn't trust any regulator or valve you may have on the compressor.

If you have Presta valves (narrow, with a knurled nut at the top you have to unscrew), any bike shop will sell you an adapter so you can air up the tires with your compressor.

Thats why I thought setting the outlet pressure low would be ok. Also I have a tire gauge I use on the car tires so I could use that to check the pressure in the bike tires right?

I also just checked the pressure of the tires and it says on the tire that 65psi is the max, but noticed that my local bike shop filled them only to 50psi.

Is it advisable to stay 10-15 psi under the recommended pressure?

Max pressure is the max that the tire is recomended to take, not what you want to be using, if going off road, would look at 40psi or less, to be a better pressure, and much less if running tubeless.

The tire pressure you need will depend on what terrain you have, trail conditions, your weight, riding style, bike type; so many different factors that there is not a perfect universal pressure, you just have to find what works for you.
