It's been a strong year for me so far, to my surprise I've been riding the mtb more than I thought and have found that my taste in front end height has changed and am now preferring a lower front end height to a higher front.

Nearly did go over to the dark side, but I just dropped the track idea after learning that in order to race track I have to take a class in order to be allowed to compete and the spacing between the disciplines I wanted to race are too thin and far between, and would not be worth the money for taking the class. So I'll just use that money to build my 2nd mtb.

I've done absolutely no real trail riding so far (I rode on the trails once, but it was more walking due to the slush). The only big thing is that I've switched to platforms, and I'm loving it. I just feel better about going off of jumps and riding skinny type things. I'll get some of my gnarjerkcore riding on film tomorrow as long as the urban spots are open.

1 ride. I know it's sad. I was getting 3-4 a week May-Oct, but Oregon's rain (even though it's been a really dry year) has sent me to the darkside for the winter.

My new (2007 leftover) Jamis Dakar Xam 2.0 came on friday afternoon. I put it together...stripped the white metal or aluminum rear D hanger and now am waiting for a replacement.

I have been told it is a bit overkill of a bike for mountain biking (I mostly road ride and want a different discipline) but the components are great (XTR/XT, High end Easton, Fox TALAS RLC and Fox DHX AIR 5.0) and I got a killer deal on it.

Was told its a race bred all mountain machine, and you are going to use it for park trails.

I try to not let more than 5 days go by without riding on the mountain. On a good week I've managed to squeeze in 5 good rides of at least 15 miles (YEAH!) I am lucky to have mountains nearby, and the trailhead is 2.5 miles up the street. My friend from AZ came to visit this past week and he was having a hard time keeping up with me, especially on the climbs, when it's usually the other way around. So I think those are good signs of improvement.

Just the fact that you need to take a class to be able to race track...sends it to the ghey-list right away.

Not the sport as a whole...just the governing body.


When it was frozen I rode the trails, but lately it's been pretty soft. There are some 6" deep ruts cut in alot of the trails. Sad...it's gonna take alot of work to get them back into shape.

I've done quite a good bit of riding in '09 so far. I've done about 45 miles so far. Last year I didn't pass the 50 mile mark until July. So I'm happy with that.

I smacked a tree pretty hard yesterday. It really hurts when I sneeze. Hopefully I only buised a few ribs.

Nothing outdoors in 2009 yet. Been lifting 4 days a week and riding a trainer or stationary 2 days a week. Soon it will be 3 days lifting, 3 days riding per week. Once the season starts, I hope to get 4 days on a bike and 2 days lifting per week. We'll see how that pans out.

Okay...I'll admit it. I bought my wife a stationary recumbent Schwinn. I've been walking 9 flights of stairs 4-8 times per day and riding the recumbent 30min-1hr a day.

Trying to build my base so I can do that 100mi with B2b.

I've been doing 10 hours or so a week. Lotsa new bike parts, ridden outside ~150mi. So I'd say a good year so far.

We were just over in the Puget Sound basin this weekend and checked out a big park in Redmond (home of Microsoft). Anyway, turns out there's a big velodrome there that is open to anyone to use for free. The only real rule was that geared bikes have to defer right-of-way/track position to track bikes and, of course, you have behave predictably. Looks like they also have races year 'round under the lights every Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights, weather permitting. Looked almost interesting.

So a gnarly Hulk on a fixie comes up behind me on my geared bike...and I'm supposed to know he's fixed w/o looking at his drivetrain...maybe everyone should yield to everyone...eventually the whole freakin' lot would be at a dead stop on the side of the track

I think it meant that if there were track-bike guys out there and you came toodling along on your geared bike with your fenders and paniers that you should not be surprised to find yourself suddenly scuttering sideways down the high bank by someone's judicious application of foot to your top tube

I had no idea that track racing was like MX racing? Ohhhh that put's a whole new light on the sport!
Back in my Mx day's we used to grab each others brake levers, clutch levers, kick each other out of gear
All in pursuit of the tackiest, most godawful trophys, that only stood 6 inches high any ways.
Course there was a little beer involved which made it seem normal at the time!

Extra points if they had cheesy plastic bits instead of real plated pot-metal! Hey, but at least they were trophies - - and sometimes with a kiss from a cute trophy girl. They sure don't do that at the bike races; you're lucky if you get a decent medal or something other than your zillionth schwag water bottle .

I still remember when we started to hear of the Czech riders' dirty tricks; and how it started filtering down into sportsman racing. My friend had a guy outside of him on a corner and the guy puts his boot on his fork lower and shoves him to the ground. . It's not like a GP title was at stake or anything; criminy.

No matter how bad you crashed you had to jump to your feet and get off the track( Actually waay off the track) cause those those crazy maniacs would go out of their way to run over ya! He He, Oh To be young again!
