pisgah Mountain Bike Adventure Race (PMBAR)

Hey Everybody! Registration is open for the 2009 Pisgah Mountain Bike Adventure Race (PMBAR).

https://www.active.com/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1686616

On May 2nd, 2009 teams of two riders will race to reach 4 of 5 checkpoints, in any order, and return to the start finish. Checkpoint locations will remain secret until start-time and there is no suggested route. Racers should expect routes to vary between 50-70 miles with 9000-15000 feet of climbing.

PMBAR is held deep within the Pisgah National Forest, one of the most rugged, beautiful, and unforgiving areas around. There will be no sag wagons and no gear drops. Once you leave the start/finish area you will be on your own. Checkpoint locations may be manned, however, there will be little to no food and water support on course.
Please do not underestimate the difficulty of this event.

PMBAR starts at Black Mountain trailhead on NC276 in Pisgah Forest, NC. That's directly across the street from Davidson River Campground. Reserve your campsite at www.recreation.gov

New for our 7th annual event: Cash prizes for 1st place and a brand new mandatory checkpoint location.

Go to www.pisgahproductions.com for photos from past events, the sponsors list, mandatory gear list, and contact information.

I have a cousin whose parents run a small resort in the Pisgah National Forest called Brown Mountain Beach. Pretty nice place. Would be a pretty cool place to have a bike race.
