So here's a fun idea for a 2spd trail HT:
2007 Rocky Mountain Flow 1 frame has a 66.5' HA with a 100mm fork and ISCG tabs
2008 Marz 4xWC is around 4lbs, tough enough for a flowey rider (not DJ tough, but better than a "trail fork")
Or you could just go with an Argyle for a little more strength
Hammerschmidt crankset
Singlespeed rear wheel
Now you got an almost "FR-tough" hardtail that is quick and snappy with 100mm of travel to take enough harshness out of the trail, yet it still retains that slack HA for really fast and flowey riding, in a two speed design for simplicity.
Could be in the 25-27lb range too.
If I could only dictate where my Tax Return goes

I went out yesterday on it with the new frok at 160 and it's definitely a lot of work climbing but descending is sooo smooth. The slacker HA made it super stable on the fast stuff and I got alot further down the rocky ditch before I lost momentum
Climbing surly is a beyotch though. I was considering throwing a granny back on, but the simple, quiet blackguard is too nice.
I guess I've got the Crapper if I'm gonna do a "climb fest".

I find nothing fun about this thread. Please define "fun".

I'd prob. just run them over and cook them. The pluckin' is hard work though. More fun to do the "fling" and watch them run around the yard like "Sleepy Hollow".

I actually thought about a PIKE, but that would drop the front end back down a bit and the U-Turn on the PIKE is not quite "Kansas friendly". I'd be running it at 95 all the time or 140 all the time. The hills aren't long enough to warrant stopping and twisting, twisting, twisting the U-Turn. A TALAS would be better b/c you just hit it, bounce once, and you're there. TALAS is too $$$ though. There are some PIKE's on the bay in the upper $300's range, but I'll prob. just stick with the big'ol 55. It really is a fun fork, dude. Schmoove!

Aww, if all you want is two speeds, save yerself some money and get an old Bendix 'kickback' two-speed hub:
Main Entry: 1fun
Pronunciation: \ˈfən\
Function: noun
Etymology: English dialect fun to hoax, perhaps alteration of Middle English fonnen, from fonne dupe
Date: 1727
1: what provides amusement or enjoyment ; specifically : playful often boisterous lack of junkyard <full of fun>
2: a mood for finding or making jest of junkyard <all in fun>
3 a: amusement , enjoyment <junkyard sucks all the fun out of life> b: derisive jest : sport , ridicule <kicking junkyard in the a** is a lot of fun>

I'm going to wait a year or two to see how the H-schmidt works out. As is SRAM norm, the price will very likely drop fairly decently after the first year as well.
For a bit more than the setup cost of the H-schmidt, I could just do it up right and get a Rohloff rear wheel setup that I could use much more easily on any of my bikes...

I've been thinking about this a bit and the idea sounds pretty cool actually. Don't think I could ever justify doing it but meh.
I think if I did it it would prob be 1x9 or single speed though, or possibly 1x5.
