    Taking stuff apart

    I want to change out a few things on my chameleon, and most stuff I can figure out reasonable well for myself. Just a few quick things though.

    Firstly, how do I get the crank arms out? I have raceface ride XC ones. I presume just undo the big alen key bolt on the drivers side and they should pull apart/come out?

    Secondly I want to take some spacers out and try a different stem, but I'm not sure how to get to them. Once again there seems to be a pretty obvious alen key bolt on top of the whole stack. Do I just undo this then once I've loosened the stem I'll be able to just slide it and the spacers off?

    Lastly is grips. I've got rubbish slide on lizard skin ones and want to take these off and put on some lock on ones. Do I just give them a good hard tug or roll them back or is there something I should apply.

    I want to change rings and cassette as well but there seems to be more stuff already about that and/or they seem simpler.

    If the crank arms just pull off then there is odds are you may start to have issues with them just falling off. You need a crank arm puller. It threads into the crank and then you spin it so that it pushes on the spindle and pushes the crank off.

    You are good about the spacers.

    If you don't want to keep the grips I'd just cut them off with a razor blade or a box cutter makes things much easier.

    Spacers. Like has been said you got it.

    Grips cut them off or if you want to save them grab a bottle of windex and pull up the edge of the grip and squirt some in there and then work it around and then do this few more times the grip will slide right off and when the windex dries you will be good to go if you ever want to use them again.
    When in doubt, style it out.

    well, i happen to have the same bike with the same build, dheorl.

    You'll need a specific tool to take off the crank arms. You're right about undoing the alan bolt, but you'll still need the proper wrench. It's not expensive at a LBS.

    You undo the alan bolts on the stem and whatnot, and it'll slide off.

    You can roll off the grips, or slide 'em. I've done this to take off the shifters. I just choose to keep mine. Ride with gloves anyways, so I don't care about grips

    If you have an air compressor, use that to your advantage when removing the grips. I stick a blow tip on my air hose and blow compressed air under the grips while pulling on them, they should slide right off the bar.

    Got a few pics of the front end because I'm unsure as to what I can take off and what I can't.









    The first one is how it is atm.

    I'm wondering if I can set up up as shown in the second pic or if I need somthing between the stem and the bike.

    Third one is all the bits I took off, top 2 are plastic spacers, bottom right is a big chunky metal spacer which is shown below the stem in the first pic. Does this need to stay below the stem. Does it serve any extra purose or is it just a different type of spacer.

    Fouth pic is just there as a reference as to what it looks like. Not sure if its at all useful or not.

    Also I'm a bit unsure about the setup inside the tube, but I won't need to change that unless I want to cut it I presume, which is something I definatly don't want to be doing atm.

    Part names.

    I think it will look better once I've got white bashguard, grips and saddle on it to go with the white fork and writing. Anyways, would you honestly pay an extra 500 (about $750) to have it in a different colour when buying it? I could get an custom paint job done for a quater of that... not such a bad idea infact.

    What about the arrangment of spacers? Can I do it with no spacer (or the really thin plastic spacer) between the bike and stem, or does it have to be that chunky metal mother trucker?
