Need a Cheap Frame
I'm want to build up a mountian bike again and I need some help. I've got everything I need minus a Frame and rear tire. CAn you guys point me to a source for cheap but quality frames. I've looked at the access at supergo and I'm leaning toward that one, but I would like to know if I'm missing something.
I need a 20-22" frame with a min top tube length of 23.75" and it must have cani bosses! I'm a big guy and also need the frame to be up to the task. I'm just going to be XC riding nothing huge. I'm 6'6" and 300lbs. |
How much do you want to spend and how much can you spend? Cheap is quite relative when people here spend $800+ for wheels.

My budget is under $500, but the cheaper the better. I just got back from the Supergo store where I test rode the Weyless xp and sp frames. Man they SUCK!!! It was like riding and over cooked noodle :(. But after looking at the Acess Frame I'm leaning toward it.

Not sure how good these frames are, but this is what I was going to use to build up a hardtail. |
Nashbar sells some inexpensive Al hardtail frames.

once more, the surly instigator fits the bill. 4130 cromo and 400$

You can get a lot of frames for around $200-$300.
My suggestion would be an Azonic Steelhead for $239! Brand new! http://www.azonicusa.com/catalog/pro...roducts_id=110 L8R |

Makes the Hardrock pale in comparison. It's a definite abusable frame. Kinda like an overgrown BMX bike!
Another I would recommend along these same lines is a .243. Canadian made and super tough.http://www.243racing.com/angleframe.html |
i dont know what cani bosses means but if your looking at XC bike ive heard jamis makes good bikes.

Canti's, are brake bosses!
Jamis is a good deal! Still would prefer the steelhead for a big guy, get the XL! Size is either a 15" in standard length or XL. L8R |
Thanks for the suggestions guy. I ended up going with the El'Cheapo Access from Stupergo. After all you have to try really hard to screw up a hardtail! I even stayed under my budget of $200 for a complete bike, but I did have to buy some tools so total cost was aroud $230. I even managed to get a free Hope ti BB from a friend in that works in a shop!
I built it up and have had 2 rides on it already. and it rides well. I've been away from riding on dirt for more than 2 years and man it feels good to get out there and ride. I'll post some pix of the bike later. |
