I would love to post a picture of my new 29er but, sadly after only 3 rides it is sitting in my garage without wheels because I am waiting for the replacements from the one I tacoed...

They say it has better small bump compliance, the bike maintains it's momentum better, rolls over obstacles better and has better balance due to the larger size of the wheels. I think it's pretty cool - I've only had four rides on my 29'er but it kicks ass over small rocks, bumps, etc. It's a lot of fun to ride.

hey scrublover - I am not trying to win you over to 29er by any stretch, but I have a friend who went through EXACTLY what you did. He has many quick 26" bikes , SS , steel , Race light bikes etc.
He tried an Inbred with a low end wheel set and swore off 29ers. He didn't like them at all. A few years later he got a Salsa with a high end wheel set and found they are light years different.
I think the big long wheel base, on a low end frame, with a SUPER wide handlebar are all working against you.
Most of my bikes are long travel 26" bikes - 5+" of travel at least on both ends.
But My 29er steel hard tail has an 80mm fork. You can't assume to swap everything you know from 26" bikes and apply it to 29ers.
I know you gave it a good try with your inbread but I think you should try (not buy) a different frame. Maybe from niner or waltworks etc.

i tried the on-one in several different ways. fork taller, shorter, longer/shorter wheelbase, SS, geared. my wheels/tires where not super light, but they were lighter than many stock bike wheels. and even with the head angle way steeper than my 26" bikes, i still disliked the way the wheels felt. sure, running a lighter wheel/tire setup would help mitigate that a bit, but then i'd not have a setup burly enough to ride where and how i like to ride, thus making the whole thing pointless.
as in my thread linked above, i intensely disliked the way the bike handled on some of my favorite local trails, in all the variations i tried. done deal, no negotiation. not interested in trying it again.
they are a solution to a problem i don't have. if other folks like them, great. i'm quite happy with my 26" wheels. i have way more fun on the same trails on this bike, and feel much more confident in it's durability and handling for me.

I was wondering why you decided to built one up to begin with. I really never understood what you were trying to accomplish (yes I read through your MTBR posts)

if you read those posts, you'd have gotten what i was after. i'd been curious about them for a long time, and the guys around me that ride 29ers are on bikes that i can't fit well to give them a fair test ride. so i decided to build one up for myself to see what i thought of them.

Hey man...I was just curious. Are there any hills where you ride, or do you just have monster-quads? Given the fact you ride that fixie with autobahn gears and your MTB is a SS with the saddle always slammed...just wondered if you're living on a plain.
