Just saying . . .

I just did my once-a-month pop over to the 50+ forum to see what was shakin' . . . see if there was anything new/different/interesting going on.

If I EVER start yammering on about Brooks B-17 saddles or talk about putting one on a mountain bike - - please euthanize me.

I don't know. There is a guy that used to roll though the shop who is way past recumbent age. He still rides an S-works Tarmac.

Yet another classic one-liner!! It's just keeps rolling out the tongue doesn't it!! Ever think of getting a job in the movie industry, Dm?

OK... electricution, lethal injection, suffocation with Maxxis Tire Catalogs, or a death flogging with said brooks saddle??

As a 50+ refugee I commend your active anticipation of sucessfully achieving the 50+ status intact with the will and ability to maintain an active life. Well done! You will have sucessfully achieved a formidable goal. . .many there are who succomb to fat and lethargy. . .and the false assumption that fitness is for the young.

But you miss the fundamental point, poor thing. Brooks saddles are merely indicative of a profound willingness to maintain an active life well beyond our ability to win races [or impress young cyclists] or even care about what saddles are appropriate. It's about staying in the saddle and feeling the joy of of "muscle engaged in forward movement". . .a universal joy regardless of age. We can agree on that, maybe?

May you look in to BF50+ with some anticipation of what is surely to come. May you look to BF50+ forum as a model as to how you will face the advance of years.

As far as euthanization goes, I leave that to all who face incipient death to decide. This I'll suggest: Brooks saddles are a far cry from the need for suicide.

Finally, do not discount the possibility that a 50+ refugee like [say] myself will seduce your mother and spend your inheritance in Reno. . .with just enough left over to make a nice cycling tour together in Tuscany. Maybe we can stay a few months in Gaiole-in-Chianti. . .on your dime!

The great thing about being 50+ is that we have the time and ready cash to endulge in good cycling with good company.

That "eloquence" strikes me more like Major Hoople-esque pontificating (if you happen to remember Our Boarding House )

I have a tin of Brooks Proofide sitting next to my computer right now. I bought it today from the Old Spokes Home in Burlington, Vermont. That's a great shop and well worth a pilgrimmage. When I get finished catching up with BF I'm going downstairs to start stroking & fondling my new green Brooks B-17 Special with the copper rails and large hammered rivets that is soon going to grace my all-Campy Austro-Daimler Superleicht. I think the British Racing Car Green color will complement that bike's Grey Poupon mustard color to maximum pimp factor. I was going to start breaking in the B-17 on my '08 Stumpy Comp tomorrow (the A-D is in my mother's heated garage and I won't be reclaiming it until this Sunday) but you guys have talked me right out of it. Age 55, but not over the hill yet.
