GF HiFi or C'dale Rush 7 ??

Went shopping today at the LBS and found these 2 bikes in my size. Gary Fisher HiFi 2008, and the Cannondale Rush 7 2009. Both bikes are below in links.

http://www.cannondale.com/bikes/09/cusa/model-9VM7.html ..MSRP is $1,439 i got em down to $1,349.

http://www.fisherbikes.com/archive/model/407 ...MSRP $1,849 i got em down to $ 1,300 out the door.

Which is a better bike?

Both are 21". The cannondale seemed to be a bit bigger, but the seat could have been higher.??

Thanks. im looking to pick one of them up tomorow!

I felt good on both. what sucks is theyre at different shops 1hr apart, so i cant really seem to tell the differance between the two unless i ride them back to back, sucks.!!

Which has better quality and better components?

They both are a great ride, in the parking lot! Im just needing some outside input.. Thanks

i'm a cannondale fan and i've owned a couple of rush models, so for the sake of argument i'll say the rush. they are a blast to ride.

that said, the fisher gets great reviews.

i don't think i'd pick them on spec alone. you've gotta come up with a favorite due to fit and feel.

I got the price down to $1,165 out the door on the Cannondale!

Im gonna test ride both again tomorrow. I kinda liked the Cdale, we'll see though. Both are a great price!

Which bike has better components?

Looks to me like the HiFi has better shocks, but the Rush's hydraulic brakes perform nicely, too. Everything else is pretty comparable.

I like my Rush, although mine is the 5Z from last year. It's pretty much the same as this year's Rush 6. I prefer the feel of its Juicy 3 brakes to the BB5's I had on another bike, but the BB5's are dead simple to adjust and maintain (although I haven't had to bleed the Juicy brakes yet... but that shouldn't be that difficult, either). The shocks' lockout feature is more useful to me on the street, but when I'm offroad I tend to have both lockouts disengaged.

I believe it comes down to if you like the Geometry (G2) of the fisher or not. Spec wise I believe the Fisher is a bit better...but those are my preferences. However, while test riding try to turn sharp and ride it somewhere you can move through obstacles and see if you like the G2 geometry. If you do the decision is made, if not, the decision is made. I have a couple friends that was in a similiar situation, one rode the fisher and like the G2, and two didnt and went with specialized and a Giant bike. There are differences in these two bikes where if you take your time test riding and get a feel of what is comfortable for you, you should have a easy decision based on your likes and dislikes. I dont mind the G2 and like fisher bikes, C-dales are tight to, good thing is you are not going to get a bad bike. So take your time and get the feel of what you like and dont like between the two, again, your going to get a good bike, if you dont get the feel for the bikes you just might not get the one most truly suited for you. Good luck, either way you will be whipping through the trails, ride the heck out of the one you get and you will enjoy it.

I've got the '08 HIFI and absolutely love it. However, the shop should be able to do better on price. I got mine for $1200 last September.

Again i rode both. I seemed to like the fisher a bit better, but not by much! I didnt like the deore shifters or the bb5's on the fisher as much as the sram x-5's shifters and the juicy 3 brakes on the Cdale.!!

I was goin to buy the Fisher casue we negociated a price at $1,300 out the door yesterday, which i think was plenty fair, its an 08, only fisher he has in the store. but when i walked in today the guy pretty much ignored me, and left me standing there 45min while he fiddled with a $20 seat and just bs'n with everyone. He kept walking buy and telling me ive got to look at my books again. So i waited atleast an hr for him to give me the deal he said yesterday, then he finally turns to me while hes still fiddilin with this stupid seat and says you know the best i can do is $1,300 plus tax. I was like WTF (not really, but thinking that). Thing that really pissed me off is the guy never looked at any book.!! He just left me standing there for an hour to flip on me, OOo that pissed me off. I just turned around and walked out. So disrespectful, and unprofessional!

I probly would have paid the tax on that had he not left me standing there like an ass. ill never go back to that store and deal with a jerk like that. Hes the owner!

Well i felt just a tad more comfertable on the Fisher, but not by much. It did have quicker turning, but i would have replaced the shifters with x9's anyway and deraliers.

So im frustrated with shoping for a bike today. Ill sit on it awhile before i make a move.

BTY.. how much does a shop typically make on a bike? cause this guy was like by the time i pay for shipping and my employees to build it i would be makng nothing if i let it go at $1,300.!??????

I feel better

Thanks

shops make around 25%, so it is very possible he wouldn't be making much if he sold for $1300. Someone else said that they got one for 1200 though, so, either, they were losing money, which i doubt, or the guy saying he wouldnt be making anything is lying.

DONE! I got a BiKe, YipPY!

So i rode a Giant Trance 4 (22") at some off the wall shop they wanted $1,300, not bad. liked the bike but didnt like the people/shop, cause he couldnt tell me anything about the bike (anything) and didnt know how to set it up for me to test ride it properly! kicked them to the curb.

went to another shop here in town off Giants web site of local dealers. Rode the Trance 3 (20") and liked it. So i bought the Trance X3 (22"). He put in the order for overnight delivery, be here tomorrow, and ready to ride. Im leaving to san diego on a business trip tonight, be back on friday to pick it up. My first XC mtb Race is saturday, im excited!

What a differance it makes working with a knowledgable and professional shop!

Anyway i went over my price point of $1,500. I got it for $1,855, not bad.

Giant Trance X3

Got home Friday night about 12am got 4hrs sleep. Race started at 7am. I didnt get to ride the bike untill the race.

The race was a blast. I can honestly say ive been in sports my whole life, from weight lifting, baseball, basketball, cross country running, and this was cardio wise the hardest. i was so beat down and exhausted at the end i went home and slept the entire day.

The bike was a dream. it did anything i asked it. It was like floating over the whoops, very nice ride. as of now the bike is capable of doing more than me. there was a time during the race i was bombing down this grade then outa no where it dipped and went up about 50yrds or more (insanly steep hill) and i cranked through the gears to the highest, got to the very top and i was so burnt out it felt like i was still moving, but was at a stand still cause the rock ledge at the top, front wheel hit the ledge and i went down like a sack of potatoes cause i was clipped in and couldnt get uncliped intime for the fall. first time ive ever used clipped pedals and shoes, oOOoo gosh scary! i understand the mechanics and everything but just not used to them at all. there was nothing i could do about it, i was in the middle of a race.! other than that, thats the only time i went down. Im still having flash backs of being clipped in and crashing while im sleeping,Lol. That feeling of not being able to do nothing to correct it is the worst, kinda like those dreams falling from the sky only to inevitably hit the ground. im scared to ride clipped in again.!!!

So i finished, im proud of that. I dont know my time or place yet, in a few days it will be posted on the web site. i know its not the best, but atleast i finished. This was my first race EVER for XC mtb, im giving you guys WAY more props for this sport, having experienced it first hand for myself just how challenging and technical it really is.

I rece again at the end of June! i will be more trained. not to sure ill be riding clipped in for the next race.

Here some pictures of the bike, Enjoy!
