Bashguard Sizing Question

When choosing a bashguard, do you base the size off of the ring you are replacing with the guard (taking off my 44 tooth ring and putting on a 44 tooth guard) or do you base it on the biggest ring that needs protecting (taking off my 44 tooth ring and putting on a 36 tooth bashguard to protect my 36 tooth ring)?

replace your 44t w/ a 36 size, you'll get protection and extra clearance.
