would this effect the performance?
hey i got a problem on my rear shock well its not really a problem i was looking at the spring and i grabbed it and started turning it, but i didn't know that the rear shock spring would turn.
Does this effect anything on the rear shock. please let em know cause i think i f*cked it up or something

It does sound like preload. But there are specific rules to using preload. If you preload too much you could bottom out the spring before you bottom out the shock. This will cause damage. Be sure to check the shock manual before preloading tooooo much.

ok...thats good. I wasn't talking about the damper in the least. Damper has nothing to do with bottoming out the shock, preload does.

If the spring turns rather easily then you need to put a bit more pre-load on it. Other wise the retaining ring will loosen up and you could ruin the shock. If you have to use some force to move it then you should be fine.
If you want to be sure about it, loosen the retaining ring until it is not touching the spring then tighten it until it touches the spring. Once it hits give it another 1 to 2 turns and it will be good to go. You can play with the amount of pre-load from there.
