Dheorl 06-20-09 02:38 PM

I'm also unaware of an italian mtb group set.

ok so what do you call them? groups? groupsets? parts?
I'm new to mountain biking after years of road cycling. All the Xs have been a real shock to me.

Campagnolo made mountain bike groupos from 89-94, but they kinda sucked from what I hear.

laura* 06-20-09 03:37 PM

... SLX, STX, DX, ...

There are also some "road" groups with an X: RX100, RSX, ...

Call 'em what you want. You'll get crap from us either way. I'm pretty hard to get along with;)

bumperm 06-20-09 06:59 PM

Hmmmm, I don't think there's any triple X components, are there?

Sounds like a marketing opportunity!

gurry 06-21-09 04:27 AM

Probably a referrence to cross, as in cross country; XC.

Flanderflop 06-21-09 05:04 AM

Speaking of which why do they call it cross country? Its not like you are going across the country.

Dheorl 06-21-09 12:30 PM

Dw chel, we all love you really...

I think groupsets is best, gruppos is more of a italian road bike group set term (ask the roadies if you want to clarify, I think I'm right).

The cross country bit depends on your use of the country. I think in this use it means "that area of land which is not part of a city of town".

Or components. Plain English works in the no-nonsense world of MTBs just fine.
