i wouldn't put it past it. I just took it to Safeway about 20 minutes ago. it was only about 1.2 miles from my house but it is really solid man. It will be a great commuter.

But taking it down Beacon.... well.....

Caloi Elite

I hope y'all don't mind me joining in. Just finished building (at least to the point of being rideable) this mountain bike this morning, have not had an off-road bicycle since 1997.

It is a 1996 Caloi Elite frame with a modified Quadra 21R fork, and mostly used parts from ebay. Much to my surprise, it came out at 27.4 pounds, I was expecting it to be over 30 with that fork. I spent some time today between road rides doing laps around the yard adjusting things. It feels like it fits me, but it has been so long since I have ridden offroad I may be mistaken. If nothing else, it was fun to put together.

Random build pics here .

Nice! I agree it could use a newer fork, but looks like a solid build overall. Any clearance problems with that big back tire on a 90's frame? I tried a 2.3" on my 2001 Gary Fisher Wahoo when I first got it but even the slightest warp in the rim made it graze the frame.

Nearly done building my new XC, not a bad rider for staying under 200 bucks waiting for chain and cables to get here, sitting at 23.5 lbs as pictured. The fork is nothing but a turd with springs in it but will work for now i guess i can't complain about a 15$ fork. Once the rest of the parts get in gonna spray the frame black and get her up on the foothills.

The tires are 2.1" and yes they are larger than I expected. There is ~ 5mm clearance on either side on the chainstays, tighter than I would like, but may be OK. It is easy to change tires if these don't work out. Much better than my Centurion though - a penny between the tire and brake bridge would lock up the rear wheel .

There is also a front derailer on the way now (already have the small ring, bolts, spacers, and shifter) so this will become a 2x8 setup soon.

I've been too busy with school/work to ride much, but found the time and money to put on an X-7 short cage and X-5 shifter for the 1x9 I'm running. Eventually I'll get a carbon fork... Now to ride!

Ps. That Giant is so nice looking. Needs some blue pedals!

Because bike manufacturers are putting bikes together as whole packages now.

That is one instance where it seems to look ok at best. But if the color placement would have been switched it would have come out with a yellow fork and that would not have been ok.

What's a zoot Capri?
