26 or 29 xc race worthy under 2000$

I am looking for a race-able 26" or 29" hardtail under 2k . Just starting to look around.. I live in Indianapolis so most mayjor dealers are available. Leaning towords Trek and Cannondale but i am open to anything that fits. To many choices.
