Rode with my Grandma today...
Holy crap man...she may not have many teeth anymore, but she is a climbin' beast!!
First day back on a granny gear in I dunno how long. I've noticed that it takes longer to get to the top...but it's easier...is that weird
Anyhoo...my knees need a bit of respite from turning the big gears and my hamstrings are suffering b/c my quads have developed quicker due to the stand-and-mash. I'll be flipping back'n'forth between the singlespeed and this thing to keep it "interesting" and vary the load.
I really did have a good time with a granny gear again though. At the end of the ride...I wasn't even beginning to get tired yet.

Funny, The terrain around here can go either way, just like the weather. I was contemplating going 1x9 today, then I got to the next steep hill and gear down so low, that every root seemed like a boulder.
Seems like my life is feast or famin!

I rather be out of breath on a larger gear than have my knees killing me from using a smaller gear, if at all possible.

Anyway, mine's smaller than yours and she's got fewer teeth!

your knees don't hurt from using a small gear unless you're doing 110+rpm. doing squats on the bike over and over at 30rpm is what blows out your knees, foo!
