Did some mtb on the Rubicon trail this weekend. Oh and some monster truck wheeling!

I have a buddy with a truck that is .. sort of bad ass. It's an old Bronco, which he rebuilt from the ground up. 40" tires, 700hp motor (dyno'd), and all kinds of other cool stuff I don't know about. His buddy has a built FJ with 37" tires. Two sweet rigs. They were nice enough to take my wife and I out to Buck Island for an overnight trip this week.

It was awesome. The stuff these rigs can do is unreal. Five foot rock wall? No problem! A mile of solid boulders and rocks (Old Sluice)? Sweet! I couldn't believe the obstacles we cruised over. And they even let my wife and I drive!

My buddy challenged me to bring my rigid SS and see how much I could ride. I did just under 6 miles of the trail before we got to an area I'd have to walk for about a mile. Almost 1000 ft of climbing in that span, but I did it, and I rode most of the rocky stuff, along with some huuuggeee slabs of granite. It was pretty sweet to be out there on the bike. The hardest part was waiting for the rigs.

We had lunch above "The Box" under a tree, looking over the slabs and the valley. We camped overnight at Buck Island, did a small amount of hiking, and took a late night swim. Then we made some huge burgers and had them with beers around the fire. Because we were out there on a Tuesday, we saw only a few guys on dirt bikes on our way out there - no other trucks. Even on the way back we only saw a couple of Jeep's headed out.

Here are some of the pics from the trip.

"Didn't I have fenders when I started out on this trail?"

(Nice FJ, BTW)

Looks like a blast. Thanks for posting.
