Any advice on this craigslist bike?

I'm new to offroad cycling and want to pick up a mountain bike for around 300 ( i know im cheap) I have looked at the bikesdirect motobecane 400HT. Motobecane seems to get good reviews on the road cycles but no one in this board seems to care for them. But today i found a older cannondale f500 that the guy wants 250 for I might go look at it tonight. Do you guys think its a good buy and what should i look for. Thanks!

The price looks like a good deal! I also have been looking at a F4 on ebay locally but have been reading alot about Headshock issues. Google reviews on this bike and see what kind of feedback people have given back. I'd throw $200 at him and see what he says!

i just saw people posting issues with the headshok. guess the real complaint is the 60mm of travel. The LBS said it should be the innerspring because it has no travel lock. Cant wait to get it home tonight!

Damn man, that really does suck. That really was a nice looking rig for the money. Here in Atlanta, people on craigslist would of tried to get within $50 of its org price. Its insane what most think there bikes are worth, and its funny how they will post them for 6 months trying to sell them. But I also have sold several bikes and other crap on there. And that s how I have always been. First caller that says they want it. Tell me when you will meet me, and I will hold. But if they blow me off its on to the next one. But that has only happened twice. Keep looking, you will find the right one.
