The 15yr. old BMX'er in me came out today a.k.a. "Don't even try Mr. Roadie"

I have a road bike that I ride a lot, so don't get me wrong, road riding is a blast and a joy. However, give me an upright bike with wide risers, a big ring and some knobbies... and the BMX'er "ditch" instinct comes out in me.

Coming home from an epic battle with a serious rock trail, I decided to take the bike path home. Off to the side and into some wooded area, there are trails with some small kickers and descending paths. Well, I was jamming along when a roadie dumbsh|t thought they were going to play race... they even showed me a wheel.

If you're going to pass, then PASS. I don't care because I know road bikes are much more efficient than a MTB on pavement. However, if you're going to play - THEN BRING IT ON!

So first, I thought I'd go off road with hopes to leave this person who was trying to race in the "Tour du Draft The Fat MTB Rider", and I lost them. When I popped off onto the pavement - there they were huffing and puffing! So I said, "F(_)ck this" and I turned it up. First ditching them, hitting the kickers, railing onto a single track, and popping out onto the pavement again where they were nowhere to be seen. I rode down a flight of stairs to cap it all off and went home with a big ass grin.

I don't try to go out and drop roadies or other riders... I'm very courteous and reserved. I truly ride my own ride and wave people by all the time - but don't play games! I'm not the fastest guy, but I'm not the slowest either. A switch turned on in me on tonight's ride that brought me back to my teenage BMX freestyle years, when I was ditching security guards and railing around, urban freeride style. Best of all, the bike has some get-up-and-go so I really enjoyed the acceleration. BMX is not the same as a "responsible adult" and usually we drive our bikes to a flat area to do some flatland. I don't ride my BMX bike around like I did when I was a kid.

I think I'm re-hooked on MTB riding in a big way.

Haha! I think I was wheelie-ing Stingrays and pipey little rotary-valve 100s just a couple years ago . . . wasn't I? Wasn't I? Thanks for the mental picture.
