The Decline of the Girlscout (Dirty Bird DH)

We spent the weekend at the Dirty Bird downhill race in Seven Devils NC. It was a great event, put on by racers for racers. The Girlscout had a really interesting weekend.......I'll tell the story in pics.

Saturday practice went well.

Saturday night brought a lot of rain but things were holding together and he was really getting things dialed in. This section is near vertical,Ican't believe how much the camera flattened it out.

He was getting the rythym section down and picking up speed.....

A little break to think things over.....

...and then back at it

Cool stuff!

I gotta ask - - do using the goggles bug him or does he just forget?

at the end of practice he's a little beat...

Rockin' new colors for the race (thanks WheelieMert).

.....and then the rains came.
"You see, what had happened. Up there when I had no bike and was plowing up in the mud"......Read the shirt Girlscout, read the shirt!

Beaten,battered,bruised.......no podium today, the Dirty Bird won.

Maaaan, dang! I looked through all of my images last night and don't have a single photo of girlscout. During his race run i was trying to find a dry spot for me and the camera gear. I thought for sure i would have gotten at least one in practice. Bummer.

I do have one of me almost getting run over though... Jeremy (the guy trying to run me down) ended up tagging the heck out of the tree I should of been hiding behind. I barely got out of the way.

Another one that I found a little humorous.

I'll post more when i get them all sorted.

The tree he hit was wrapped in a foam pad, but he still ended up getting a little banged up. Yeah, the camo guy was pretty dang funny. He may have been the loudest one in the bunch. The heckling that was going on in the rock garden was off the hook, some of it was pretty offensive as well, or maybe I'm just getting old...? You can't quite make it out in the photo, but the guy in yellow is wearing a banana suit and wielding a small sledge hammer. This race was an awesome one to attend. I had a blast.

Every good race needs a "heckler's alley." And speaking of loud, it's definitely not complete without SuperFan in attandance . Did it have enough cowbell?

I think pots, pans and wooden spoons are on the move to replacing the cowbell lol.

Excellent! I'll have to remember that.

BTW, highrevs, have you ever encountered Superfan (Jason Reiman) at any races over there? (If you've heard him, you would know . . . .)
