Need a new suspension fork...
The seals have broken on my current fork (Answer Manitou Spyder R) on my Raleigh M600. Apparently, according to my LBS, replacement seals are no longer available for this model. I really liked that fork and wish I didn't have to replace it. To make a long story short I have decided to get a new fork.
Here's the pertinent information: I'm an intermediate rider, don't do any crazy jumps or anything like that, mostly hills and river trails (roots, rocks, etc). I 'm about 6-1 and weigh around 250 pounds and I really don't want to bottom out every time I take a bit of a drop. I don't need the newest/coolest fork just one that will work. I'm looking for a good value and hoping to stay around $200 to $250. One fork that has been suggested to me is the 2002 Manitou Black Elite 100-120.Any suggestions that you have are greatly appreciated. This is my first post so if i've left out any information you need please tell me. |
I hate Manipoo's with a passion as they flex WAY too much for my tastes. I would suggest This. I have the '03 version and though you give up 3 inches to me we're pretty similar in our size and riding style (I'm no finesse rider).

with you being over 200 lbs you will probably need to upgrade to a heavy spring.Ive been told to stay with coil(no matter what brand) for my being over 200lbs

The black would be fine for your needs, though you might want to look at Marzocchis as they have a good reputation for rough riding/heavier riders.
