Learned something new about cable routing

For the past year, my front disk brake's cable had been routed behind the fork and fork crown, and caused rubbing on the head tube. My LBS had installed it this way. The rubbing on the head tube never bothered me since the paint was silver and so the bare aluminum showing through didn't look too bad. But now, a year later, I read this article about how the cable can wear into the fork's crown, and holy hell, I checked my bike and the worn area was pretty deep.....never even realized it.

Needless to say, I immediately rerouted the cable. I just wish the "professionals" at the store had known better, 'cause I sure didn't.

Yeah. My friend's fork's crown is completely worn through the black (THICK) paint to the aluminum. Pretty weird. I have hydraulic cables, which are zip tied in place; no problems.

Your LBS is inhabited by little knoblets.

I've never understood why the crap exhibit A is a desirable routing...it looks like dook! Dumb.

Exhibit B is all that's ever made sense to me. I routed mine that way before I ever payed attn to anyone else's routing.

Thanks...it's alright. I'd trade it in a heartbeat for a Sinister Ridge or TransAm. (or Vagrant...or...)

It has served me well. I haven't broken it...and really doubt that I will. It's pretty tough, and light compared to a TransAm or Instigator...or whatever. It's a shade over 5lbs.

I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a 16.5" to build as a beefcake.
