on July 18 the Muddy Buddy will be coming to Pocahontas State Park again.it is a 6 mile course where a team of 2 take turns riding and or running while overcoming some pretty cool obstacles.I was in attendance at it last year and it was quite an event.the 6 miles are not on the mt. bike trail but on the Old Mill trail section that has some pretty tough hills to climb along with obstacles thrown in at times.there were 400+ teams registered there last year.also they have just opened a trail that used to be for hiking only that is called the Powhatan trail located at the back of the camground as a shortcut to the pool or mt.bike trail section.its a little over 3 miles of about 50/50 fairly steep,twisty downhill/uphill.less than 100' of flat on the whole trail.also there is an additional 1.75 miles added to the Old Mill trail at the front of the park that was added in early 04 but finally hooked in with the rest of the trail in June.its also pretty twisty, even though its double track,it will get the heart rate up pretty well on the climbs and there is 1 section where for some reason they put in all very large rocks at the bottom of a hill and it makes for some good concentration nessecity(sp).they are also to the point of having approval for a new area of the mt. bike trail that is a skill test section(according to head ranger Zahn on July 2).it is a reality just waiting to happen!!!hope to see some of you on JUly 18

I would like to do that race, me and my friend (both MTB'ers) were readin about it but you have to be over 16 to participate in it. Couple more years...

at least I got the spelling right. LOL. what I did(since I did not know in advance,just happened to be camping there)was rode the course the morning of before it started and it was a hoot for sure. if it is like last year you can ride it the night before as they set it up the fri. before the event except for the flags showing the direction of the trail.
I showed my wife this post and she laghed at it too then informed me that I should leave more spacing in between sentences. LOL!!!. I would rather be on a bike than do this sentence structure stuff but thanks for the info on proper sentence structure. I guess I can learn new stuff off the bike as well as on.

Sounds like fun - I just signed up to do the Muddy Buddy Denver (actually in Boulder, August 22nd). This will be my first ever race - let alone multi-sport! It looks like it's more about fun than ultra serious competition though (hence the mud). I'm looking forward to it and am about 2 weeks into a basic running program...

I did this in San Jose, CA last year w/ my wife. WHAT A BLAST!! And man, do you get DIRTY! Definitely wear your beater gear.

Just make sure to make your bike highly visible so it's easy to find in the transitions. I put colored tape on my spokes and we always placed the bike wheels up. It was always easy to find the bike among hundreds.

I gotta work. I talked to the race coordinator yesterday and he said that it is the same course as last year with 1 small change in 1 obstacle. it is more about fun and mud than any technical stuff. he also said there are650+ teams signed up so that spoke taping sounds like a great idea,thanks for sharing with the forum

650+ ! Wow. A couple of my friends did it last year there, and they were a bit disappointed by the non-technical (lots of fire roads) nature of the biking. They were a bit mismatched sizewise, which also caused some trouble, since you share a bike: 5'3 and 6'3!

Any other races coming up nearby in the near future? I've been nursing an injury from the XTerra Sport, but am itching to get back out there!

I spoke with a gentleman yesterday who said that they will be making a new set of trails in the near future that will be exlusively for racing and the plan is to have a race in the spring and fall there. when it will be done is up in the air at this point. I also spoke with another gentleman who was injured in the Xterra when a person in front of him slammed on the brakes and stopped while going down some steps. his knee is still bothering him but he was the the biggest (over 6'-230+pds,about 0 body fat) mt. biker Ive ever seen so I think that plays in it a little. all in all I met some really cool people yesterday after the race. I thought it was on Sat. and I had to work that day but I went yesterday afternoon and found out otherwise. they did a great job of cleaning the trail up after too. last year it was a mess even after they all left.
