Came across two guys with rifles on the trail today

Yup. I was strolling down a far from civilization MTB trail and I see an old pick up and two guys with rifles doing some sort of guard act, you know, like walking back and forth. They were the redneck farmer types. I looked at them, they looked at me, I kept riding along, nothing happened, but this certainly opens my eyes to possible dangers on the trail. I was riding alone BTW, which adds to the risk.

What would you do AFTER an event like this ?
- Not ride that trail again ?
- Only ride the trail when riding with someone else ?
- Something else maybe.........

The only protection I carry is pepper spray and I wouldn't even use that if they confronted me. And carrying a gun is definitely out of the question.

What do you think ?

Probably go with someone else, or at least let someone know where I'm going. Make sure my cell is charged. Having grown up in a redneck-heavy area, they'll usually leave you alone...unless they're out for MTBlood.

It's not like they were harassing you. People are allowed to carry guns. It's not a big deal.

You might check to see if hunting is allowed in the area. If so, if I was you, I would think twice about riding during hunting season, but at least wear orange

No, I just focused on hammering the pedals hard and not falling, all while giving them a very slight smile.

Report a Jihadi training ground to the police.

Hey! What better cover than to disguise themselves like a couple of rednecks with rifles.

Was one of them Chuck Norris? Chuck Norris doesnt go "hunting" because it implies the possibility of failure.... Chuck Norris goes "killing".

I'm with Ed, I woulda stopped and started talkin with them. Might of found out some good hunting information.
Just wear an orange jerey or vest type thing. 98% of the "rednecks" wont shoot at orange.

IDK, living in GA I never had any problem with the "Redneck farmer type"
They were the people I'd personally run to if I was in trouble. Most of them are all for helping someone out. In my area of GA they hated the gang idiots we had and would often help protect people if they were getting harrassed by them. Going over to their houses were nice to, They always had some good food, that they just insisted you eat.

.... I miss that.
=( lol'

That's another reason why I carry a gun when ridding. Its not only for the pit vipers its also for some dumb ass in the woods that has a gun and doesn't know how to use it and has mental issues.
