Identify year of this Specialized FSR XC

I'm thinking about buying the above bike on craigslist, is this a good choice for the price? It's a $1500 bike, so if it is in good shape it must be a good deal. Is there anything I should look out for? I haven't bought a used bike before.

Another question: The guy says it is a FSR XC Comp, but the new Comp's all have disc brakes. Is this just the lower model? Or did they make Comp's without disc brakes a while back?

Thank you so much for your help everyone!

looks to be an early 2000's model, maybe 2001?

edit: it looks like specialized started making that type of frame as early as 1999.

tFunk is right, in that it is around a 2001. Funny, Comps in that era mostly came with Manitous, though that looks like a RS Judy.

What to watch out for:
  • Worn pivot bearings in the rear suspension, including the link. Not fatal if they are and all of the bearings are standard metric industrial sealed bearings; but know that you'll be out $5-15/ea replacing any bad ones.
  • Check the shock to be sure the seatoost hasn't contacted it (FSRs with the abbreviated seatmast had the potential for this).

Other than that, if it's in good shape an FSR XC is more worth $500 than almost anything else of that age. It's a proven design that has withstood the test of time.
