welcome back!
Just a quick note about my return to dirt.
I used to race mountain bikes back in the mid 90's. Recently I've been absorbed in the world of road riding and enjoying putting in lots of miles and some good focused aerobic training. During this time I would usually get out and mtn. bike a few times a year, but not much.
Well, suddenly it had been a year and a half since I'd been on a trail. I had my reasons. The nearest "good" trails are about 45 minutes away, so to get in a good 2 hour ride, I would need 4 hours of free time. In four hours I could head out my front door and get in 70 miles or so on the road bike.
Well, they recently built some trails about 15 minutes from my house, so I dusted off the old Santa Cruz and headed out for a trail ride today. It was awesome!! I forgot how much the dirt meant to me.
The trails were pretty sweet and after a couple of loops I started to get my confidence back and started flying around the corners and through the creeks. Of course no return to the trail story would be complete without this: i was maybe a little too confident and went flying around this off camber corner and my wheel slipped and dropped into a rut and I went flying over my handle bars. Blood was gushing from my knee and forearm and I had dirt all down one side where I had slid along the trail. I got back on my bike and rode the rest of the trail with the biggest, goofiest grin I've had in a while. It was fantastic. Time to work a weekly mtn. bike session in to my training schedule for sure.
