my usual hangout is about 5 miles up in the highlands, 7Springs is an hour away (small town ski resort that makes a weak attempt at getting in the summer dh game). Wisp is about a 1.5 hr drive for us. I've gone a whole 3hrs to check out trails in WV but nothing compares to the local stuff. Snowshoe is a place I'd like to ride next summer...

Plattekill is only about 6½ hrs. from you - - that's closer than I am to Whistler.

The nearest ride here is only around 9 miles away, and would make for a nice ride, but the only way to get there without adding another 15 miles is by highway, and sadly the other part of the trip there is through the middle of a very congested area, so no matter where I go to ride, I've got at least a 25 minute drive.

The trails I usually ride are about 3 miles from my apartment, so I just ride there. That, and I don't own a car.

Once in a while I'll either take a Zip Car or bum a ride off someone to get out to some other trails, but so far it's all been within an hour's drive or so.

Thx! I took a quick look of Plattekills site, def looks worthy of a summer camping vacation.

I still have to do another Allegrippis day, it's 2.5hrs away. I actually went out and bought some UA cold gear in order to extend the season, havent used it yet but planning on it.

There are trails very close by, but the season is short here. A 30 mile drive to Gunnison extends the season a month on either side. Moab is about 3-4 hours with Grand Junction and Fruita in between. I'll I'll take any excuse to ride those other spots in the spring and fall.

If I feel like riding straight to the top of the mtn up my hollow,I can ride some "gas-line roads" (fire roads, mostly gravel) for hours,or I can road ride. My regular trails are 35 miles (about 50 minutes if driving with a purpose-twisty curvy mtn roads across 2 mountians),but I don't normally mind the drive for good dirt...tho I haven't ridden but once since August (tore a hip muscle on a day trip to ride 2 1/2 hours away, took one ride that was obviously too soon since),I've already ridden there over 65 times this year (judging by the printout when they scan my seasoin pass to the park).

I miss the days when I lived in a specific town and could ride to the city park and ride their trails all day, then ride home (but I don't miss that town because it had a higher percentage of crime than most major cities in the US per square mile).

He seems to be pretty confident that theyre going to open next summer. They are running out of time to be opening that soon. I hope it happens like he says. Gotta keep that hope alive.

I'm pretty well set up with rides, both local and distant. I live within 3 miles of 2 local parks with MTB trails, and although they're short they have some rooty technical sections and short drops. My favorite rides are on the east side of the Cascade mountains, though, and the closest are about an hour away. For a rarer treat, I'll take a long weekend up by lake Chelan in north central Washington, or down in central Oregon- there's lots of epic rides in both places.

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

I went from Indiana to Glacier, Montana one time. I took the train, though and rented a bike while there.

Main trail is about 30 minutes with a lot of other trails within an hour. Furthest I have gone specifically for a ride was about 3 hours

My local singletrack trails are a 20 minute bike ride away. Otherwise I can drive up to 45 minutes away to ride other local trails. I've driven up to three hours to ride other trails in the midwest & will drive farther if there's camping involved.

I normally ride some trails that are about 15 minutes from my house....But I'm ready to try out some other trails around GA. I'm planning on going to Jackson, GA to hit the Dauset Trails tomorrow or the next day. Jackson is about 1.5 hrs from my house.

I've seen your local trails. I'd drive 3 hours too.

Usually, I stay local, within one hour, but I have driven to Pisgah about 6 or 7 hours from Raleigh.
