I'm considering getting into biking...need some advice.

Hello all,

I've recently been pondering purchasing a mountain bike. The primary use for the bike will be commuting back/forth to work, going to and from the gym and trail riding occasionally.

My local bike shop sells Trek bikes. As I'd like to spend around $500, they pointed me towards the Trek 4300.

Does anyone know anything about the 2010 Trek models. I've read a lot of 4300 reviews, but they all seem to be for models 5 to 8 years old. I'm not sure how up to date this information is.

Also, would anyone care to suggest an alternate make / model?

Thanks in advance,
Steve

Thanks CbadRider...sorry for the bad etiquette (posting a question in my intro)...I didn't catch my mistake until after I posted it.

4300's a fine bike. If it fits you, go for it. Most bikes in that price range (Specialized Hardrock, Fisher Tarpon, Giant Wahoo, Jamis Trail X3, Cannondale F8, etc) will all be spec'ed the same, and it just comes down to what feels the best.

I would give thought to a 8000/8500.
