resurrection
Not old enough to be vintage, not new enough to be cool. My Super v went into a coma about 5 years ago with a blown out Fox Alps 5R and spokes pulled through the 2nd back rim. I bought it new in '97. It had a few problems right out the door. The fatty fork worked OK for about a week, but the roller bearings rusted immediately. I got new ones on warranty, but they rusted in a matter of weeks from riding in the rain. Within the warranty period, I pulled some rear spokes through the stock Mavic 222's, wallowed out the crank arm at the BB joint, and ruined 2 sets of roller bearings on the fatty fork. The dealer was tired of dealing with me and I don't blame them, but I paid around $2K and thought it should work for a while, so they referred me to another dealer who fixed me up. They warranteed the cost for the original parts and I paid the difference for the upgrade that included a Moto FR fork, Coda tarantula sl cranks, and Mavic X517 rims. I basically turned it into '98 Freeride 2000 without disc brakes. I appeared to be bomb proof and actually was for about 6 years. The X517 failed at the eyelets again, but I stole the wheels off a Gary Fisher Josua I have. Then the seals went on the rear shock and I didn't have the money to buy a new one and Fox said they couldn't fix it because it was outdated enough that they didn't make the parts to rebuild it. So, I let it sit. Last month, i decided to bring it back to life. I did a complete tear down to clean and re-lube every moving part that I could get into.
I thought I ran into a fatal wound. A stress crack at the BB. After more thought, I determined it was just a scratch from the chain, because it is on the thickest part of the weld and that's not where it would crack from stress.
Since it's mainly going to be a street cardio trainer to get myself back in shape for MX and be pit bike at the races, I ordered a Rhyno Lite/ deore wheelset, Ritchey Moby Bites, brake cables, salmon kool stop pads, grips, new cassette, chain, a Cane Creek Cloud 9. I'm still waiting for some parts, but here's where I'm at. Might not be the coolest thing to some, but I've always loved the way this bike looked and handled, so I'm keeping it alive.
Since it really is going to be the little brother to my '09 YZ 250 2-stroke and I never felt right about the mango color of the swingarm, I was thinking about stripping and polishing, or brushing the swing arm and fork lowers. Maybe anodizing the fork lowers gold if possible, or painting them white. Then my real beast will have a partner in crime. What do y'all think?

Fun-looking project. I have a soft spot still for Y frames and the C'dale Vees were some of the coolest of the bunch (IMweirdO). Some "Kenny Roberts stripes" on the Y-beam would make it complete .
