Pants for MTB?
I am new to Mountain Biking (in fact, all biking in general) and I was wondering if they make pants for off road cycling. I suppose I could use regular pants and wear a pair of padded cycling shorts underneath, but does anybody make pants especially designed for rugged dirt/rock cycling?
I know they make MTB shorts, I have a pair. I want something that covers my entire leg for those really rough trails and for cooler weather. Thanks, -Matt C.- |
...get leg warmers. Pants are usually too hot unless it's raining and cold or full on winter. you can take leg warmers on and off. I wouldn't be concerned about rough trails and legs being scraped.

A pair of bike shorts and some shin pads? Is it extreme off road cycling?

Yes most companies that make the mtb shorts make mtb pants.

I wear these, and have sold many pair on eBAY in the past. The 360's are my fav simply because of the slightly smaller leg openings. Both are very similar and have excellent padding inside & on the sides & back, but none that contact the seat. I usually wear a pair of reg. biking shorts underneath for seat padding. They list for almost $90, but get them on eBAY for about 1/2 that....
As for the full DH pants, I wear MX Racing pants. Too hot for anything other than 100% DH riding/racing, except in the -60 degree temps. Then they're OK for X/C riding as well. The liner is what burns you up... Great protection though. It's the only way to go IMO. I have both Answer & Fox full lenth pants. Equally as good... Azonic, Answer or Fox brands are the best. |
Xtreme Biker: Did you see my thread from last night. Asking if those are good. Anyways, how do you like them? I'm considering getting a pair.

Hi FoX Rider Sorry I wasn't online last nite, so I missed that thread. Appears someone else tried to answer your question to me, but since I actually wear these along with Answer & Azonic brands, I can give you a factual reply. Sure, Fox makes good quality sportswear, BUT unless you've owned it, you wouldn't know that it runs about a size smaller than normal. IE: if your waist is size 32, then buy a 34. Same with Fox jersey's. Size medium should order a size large... Azonic usually runs true to size as does Answer. Here's a pic of the Azonic DH shorts I also wear. BTW how much were you going to spend on the Fox 360's? Later... |
