Congrats! Looks like an ambitious schedule; good luck !
BTW, I see room in that to squeeze in the 'Round the Clock 24-hour in Spokane.

Daaamn! That's awesome. I was up there for the running race (as a pacer, not a racer...I ran 38 miles but ate as much as the guys running the 100 heheh), and it's beautiful country. Enjoy and good luck! You are beyond hardcore.

This will be my first MTB race. Done some road racing, cyclo-cross, triathlons, & duathlons. But this looks like a spectacular race. I'm looking forward to it.

one less horse
You should really try and head down to Wilkesboro and do the Warrior Creek race, if for no other reason than to ride the trails there. They are first rate.

On the Mohican - Stay up front in the beginning, even if you have to redline yourself (I know, not somehting you want to do during a 100 miler, but the alternative is worse). they only give you a mile or so to spread out before they dump you into the singletrack. You must get to the singletrack first or you are screwed for the first 20+ miles (if you can ride singletrack). There are enough roadies in these races that you will want to scream when the person in front of you has to dismount to ride over a 4'' root.
The race is getting big enough now that they should seperate the 100k from the 100 milers. But they didn't last year.

Thanks! I will definitely keep the board updated as the season progresses.
first things first...I have to lose like 15 pounds
then I will focus on long road rides and plenty of running. I need to get past that Leadville Marathon in order to do the Leadville 100. I bypassed the lottery by signing up for the other Leadville events

That's why I vote for the clothesline approach. Not many would be ballsy enough to pull that off. Alternatively you could make it a 'chicken' match .

and you'd still think that...
clothes can trick you over time.
you need to be pretty trim for these...especially at altitude 12000+ feet. I will be at a major disadvantage for this. I will not have time to spend acclimatizing.
so I need to be trim

Now, I want to be clear. I recommend getting to the singletrack first becuase the first 40 miles of the race has some really sweet buffed out singletrack in it that was made to be ridden fast. Swoopy, smooth with a few rocks and roots scattered in and about. Stuff that you can really just let go of the brakes on and mach. Getting stuck behind riders who are constantly on the brakes is just dissapointing and disheartening.
