*want to upgrade forks/someone tell me my bike is garbage so i can get a new1*
i have a 2004 trek 4300 that i have been riding on and off since i bought it new. the frame fit me when i was 13 and about 7" shorter , but while i have grown over the years the bike has not so i have come to get used to the small size i guess. so much so that when riding a large as per the shop's rec, the bike feels big and cumbersome.
i am looking to get more serious into the sport and feel that im a bit limited with the bike's setup. before i upgrade to a new frame or maybe even dual susp i want to have something i can beat the **** out of. so i was thinking of upgrading the 70 mm stock fork
isit possible to go to longer travel or would this mess up the geometries and angles making it unridable? i was thinking a decent air fork with 80-100mm of travel. would it work?

Only replace stuff when it breaks. Save all of your money. It's cheaper to buy a complete than it is to build a bike piece-by-piece. By the time you have your current bike upgraded...you will have spent enough to buy another complete...thus making two.
So just replace stuff as it breaks, man.

alright well as i said i want to stick with this bike so i can beat it up as i refine my skills. the fork was a p.o.s. from the beginning and is good as broke so we will consider it as such for the sake of the post.
so, back to square one, can someone let me know if i can run an 80 or 100mm travel fork on this bike? the stock fork is 70 mm.
as for the money issue i figure if i buy used like i plan on i can get rid of the fork for little less , if any at all , than what i payed for it. leaving me dead even for me next complete bike purchase ! hooray!

You can run different travel forks, the main thing to look out for is the difference in the axle to crown length.

The best you can do for pennies is a Tora...Jenson usually has one for a goat's fart less than 2 bills. Ebay and Craigslist may yield something in the one-fiddy range.
Go buy a Rockshox Tora and get the flip off Craigx3's back.

Oh yeah...4got...you can get a Tora U-Turn. Adjust the travel from less than 4" to a little over 5". Plenty of room to figure out "who you are" on the trail.
And it's called a "fork". You only have one. You only eat with one. You only drive past one in the road. When you buy a Tora...if you figure out a way to install it along with your current POS...then you can pleuralize the fricker.

Fool O' crap
I would so love to ride with you - if you really are fast - but chances are you ride like you spell. And mommy would rub soap all over those fingers of your's if she saw what you typed.

and im my own or else i wouldnt be broke and with this problem , you ****... oh and i think id rather chill and find ways to channel myself , like biking, instead of fking up my head with meds like you seemingly have..

I never thought I'd say it, but I guess I'm starting to grow up a bit?
The generation following me seems so unrefined...crass...ignorant...belligerent...I don't know. It's like "wannabe gangsta" has be come a cultural norm.
"Somebody crossed me...well eff'U!" It's probably not even the fault of the generation or the parents. I am siting the grandparents with this one. The ones who "had to have it all". At least the "dust bowl" kids can appreciate the little things for what they are. Baby boomers are the ones who fueled the dual-income family causing such misguidance b/c nobody was home for the little punks after school. "Oh, let's just let the kids raise themselves. They're good kids, they'll do fine."
Heck...a good amount of them did. Now though...you see a steady decline of moral values and knowledge of good and evil. People have been jaded by HBO and MTV causing "Eff'U" to be a normal response...be it comedic...or serious. Nobody respects consequence anymore. The legal loophole has taken away the "effect" portion of cause and effect.
I mean like..."you guys are like such effin' toolz...wastin' mah flavah...dis-respectin' mah power"!
Just "want" to be smart. Punctuation is a good beginning.
