Bike choices, and Urban with a DH bike?
Hey all,
Going to buy a bike, just as soon as make up my mind already and decide on a specific bike.
I have many options now that I looked around and found some deals.
I found:
-Devinci Chilli Pepper 2004 (with a old DJ fork) for 1700$CAN, probably can get cheaper, never ridden saw or heard about this bike (only pictures).
-Practically new 2003 Banshee Morphine with a Z150 fork, for 1800$CAN
-Norco Rampage 2004, 1200$CAN
-24 bikes Pornking 2003 with DJ1 in front and Hope M4 brakes, 1700$CAN
-Now, I found 2 RM7's, on regular one RM7ws. is the RM7 frame ment for DH or FR? is it really heavy? can I ride FR with it, or basically, is it pedalable? (I will have a lighter fork then the MonsterT2 in front incase I buy an RM7). How much was the Regular RM7 Retail Price (the one that comes with MonsterT2 200mm)?
I will be riding mostly Urban and jumps, I will go a few times for DH untill winter comes, but then I will ride mainly Urban/hack.
What do you think is the best choice? (price wise too, can you please tell me which bikes have fair price and which don't. consider all bikes are in good condition).
Also, what should be the price of a used good condition Rocky Mountain RM7 wade simmons, with shivers in front? like, after taking the ussual 50% off the price...
Thanks,
tphss.

Canada and israel....the commute must suck
For me...there are only 2 choices there.
Morphine...STRONG frame, awesome fork...good price...(I assume it has decent components?)
Or
24 bikes...STRONG Frame...light for strength (the morphine is a beast)...but the djer1 sucks for dh...although the hope m4's are decent brakes...
So...in a pinch...hmm...I would support canadain...ok that doesn't work...ummmm...out of the box..the mophine looks better...if you were willing to drop more coin on a decent fork (z1 2005 for example) the 24 would be fun to have,

Yeah basically Israel/Canada of and off, it al'right
Emm, yeah the Morphine is very expensive isn't it?
You think I can ride down DH tracks with these hardtail bike? i'm not a really great DH/FR rider (up till now only owned XC bikes).
How is the Shiver SC 2002 (120mm)? for Freeride and jumping? I'de like that incase I buy a hardtail.
What about the RM7? any comments about that bike/frame?
I would like to practice alot on basic 'tricks' also, like long wheelies and stoppies and stuff like that. The easiest bike to try Manualing with is a DJ frame right? (low top frame bar).
The Pornking frame is lighter then the Morphine? and yeah the Morphine has good parts on it, you really think 1800$CAN is a good price for it? and 1700$ for the Pornking? not expensive for a used bike? I know they are expensive to build but value is suppose to drop 45-50% once the bike is used...

Shiver is ok. I generally don't recommend it for heavy riders as it does have some natural lateral flex (due to a lack of a cross bar )
Don't like rm7's. Overpriced, overrated and the suspension is just horrible.
The morphine is a beast...overbuilt and really strong. I think, this is from holding both frames and knowing riders who love them, the 24 is a perfect balance between weight and absolute strength. It isn't the strongest frame on the planet, but pound for pound it probably is. Both of those prices are reasonable. The morphine is 700cdn new and the 24 is 1100 cdn new...very expensive frames.

Can you maybe explain what's horrible about the RM7's suspension?
I am 5'11 and weigh about 142lbs... (about the shivers).
I mean, if I buy a hardtail, one of my main concerns about it is that it won't weigh like a full suspension FR bike, cause if it does one of the big advantages of a hardtail are gone...

ITs essentially a poorly designed single pivot with a really high leverage ratio. This leaves the shock in a position to blow out easier than most designs. It also was known to have many many issues with the rear linkage loosening and generally breaking. This is 2003 and before. In 2004 they remade the bike and called it a RMX which fixed most of the problems with the linkage plates and bushings. In short...wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy overpriced for a bike with a good rep (wade simmons and every 12 year old in BC) in Canada but in reality the bike was a pile of poo...
At that weight, the shivers will be sweet.
With those frames the bikes will weight quite a bit. The advantage of a HT is beyond weight. In all cases...the last bike I would recommend is the rm7. Definately NOT suited for what you described.

if you’re mostly going to be riding urban/dj, then i’d suggest either the morphine or rampage. if you’re looking for a 24, then see if you can find any deals on any of the le toys. i think those would be better geared for urban riding than the pornking. you could dh on all those bikes, although the hardtails would of course be a bit of a rougher ride than the dualies.

OK, I guess RM7 is out.
Whats the difference between the Le Toy 3/4 and the Pornking, are they ment for different type or riding?
I forgot to add I found a 2004 Norco six, how is that bike? looks like what I need...
What type of riding is the Devinci Chilli Pepper aimed to? is the frame heavy? cause this frame looks similar to a Haro Bikes frame..
I would buy the Morphine, it's just that i'm from QC and the guy with the Morphine is from BC... so I can't see them and feel their weight, tho they looks friggin' heavy.
All other bike I wrote are in my area and i'll probably go look at them tomorrow.

I don't like Devinci. It hasn't been proven in my eyes as 'tough' frames. It is a single pivot. It looks like a number of frames.
Norco 6 is decent. Stiff suspension, decent travel, good fork and decent components. A really good full suspension for the riding you described.
The differences between the le toy and the pornking are geometry. They just 'feel' different. Otherwise they are pretty equal in the strength department. There might be a bit of a weight difference too...but it has been years since I looked at those frames

Ok then...
Gonna call up today the guys with the: Norco Six, 24 Pornking, Morphine, Norco Rampage... see what's the price I can get of each and decide.
I guess for the few times i'm going to go DHing I can rent a DH bike and not suffer all year with a huge travel heavy bike.
I'll update later today.
Thanks for all the quick replies Maelstrom!

the norco six is a dope bike and it’s actually the bike i wanted. i couldn’t afford it though, and ended up getting it’s “smaller brother”, the fluid 3.0. if my fluid’s frame ever cracks i’m hoping to get the new 2005 six frame... it looks real sweet.
“kona_roastbika” here on the forum rides a 2004 norco six. you might want to ask him how he likes his.
