Time Warp Video -- Crested Butte 1980

In 1980 there were a few dozen mountain bikers in the world, because if you didn't have $1400 to buy a bike from the only mountain bike company, you had to build your own out of whatever.

This video recently surfaced on YouTube of the 1980 Crested Butte to Aspen Clunker Tour. All you equipment junkies take a look at how much fun people are having on bikes that barely work.

I'm the guy in the yellow t-shirt flexing the bicep and later showing off the new style of bike, Gary Fisher is the young guy with the handlebar mustache, Scot Nicol (who decided to start a bike company after going on this ride) is the guy juggling while riding, but the Haagen Dazs girl will make you want a milk shake.

Repack that was awesome. Brought back memories of my first foray into moutain biking in the mid-eighties. We did things on those bikes that I don't do now on full susension bikes.

Who took the video???

I love these vid's...and I must admit that when I'm riding my 18spd Raleigh I sometimes feel like there really is no reason for all this tech junk...until I hop on my Komodo and hit the trail Then I really appreciate the evolution of the modern bicycle.

What, you mean to tell me that some folks were riding single speed beach cruisers through all that?! Sarcasm off.

Cool video. I wish things were more like they were then. More of a ride less of a race just good old fashioned fun. It is too bad everything has to turn into who has the lightest this or that, Just ride what you have and have fun!

what amazed me most was in the second video at 1:32 there is actually a guy wearing a helmet. very, very, very uncommon for that day.

He was the owner of the Skid-Lid helmet company, and also the person who posted the video.
