Tapered hand reamer. More accurate and controllable than a drill. It leaves a much smoother and cleaner finish too.

Every toolbox should have one.

So you made the weak spot in your rim weaker... Hope you don't have an unlucky bump!

When MTB'ers convert to tubeless with Stan's kit, there is the instruction to drill out the inner wall of the rim to accept the rim strip's valve; no reason, if needed, you couldn't just drill out both. The reamer IS nice, though........

Have you ever seen a rim fail there?

Me neither -- not in 28 years of riding.

the notion is nice though

I am not sure why I do. I just like the Schrader more...I fear it might come back to bite me eventually in the sense of helping another rider or them helping me. I am outfitted with spare tube, CO2, and pump all Schrader. I suppose it might hurt others more than me.

I know how to put sealant in my Presta's for my road bike...so that is not the issue either....

I have all my rims except my sewups drilled out for schraeder, even though I don't run schraeder in most of them, just in case of emergency.

I've been saved by this policy a couple of times already, both times on a Sunday and far from home. The last time it happened was in the mid 90s, though, since I usually carry patch kit, 2 spare tubes and one spare tire when I'm far from home these days.

It'll be interesting to see what happens. Especially because the wheels are already warped to hell. Could try to true them. Too lazy. Want to bike instead.

I drill most of my rims then use a way larger drill(like 5/8") by hand to bevel the edge. The one I have not converted is the UST mavic set that I use on my race bike and that's only because UST and Schrader don't seem to have met yet. I like to be able to go to a service station for air if on a city tour or such, though. As a fix for that one, I just keep a presta-schrader adapter on each stem.

Oh, and the UST stems are removable core prestas.
