Specialized Hardrock

Because of the prices and sizes, I have decided that I may buy a hardrock. However, I would like to know how strong the frame is and how many foot drops can it handle? Is it worth completely upgrading eventually? Can it take a double crown fork? (I doubt) The bike retailer salespersond oesn't know how many foote xactly because he doesn't ride a hardrock and never has. I'm talking the hardrock sport of 2004. I'm just talking about the frame. With the extra money I'll have if I don't buy a shred, I can get a decent amount of parts.

undefinedI have the specialized hardrock sport. I am not sure if it is the same model. But that frame is built to last. also on the hardrock sport the rims r alex rims and r double insulted or whatever so even the rims r stronger. So it will be able to take foot drops. Me myself have done only a couple foot droops because I am not that great, but with my hardrock I am confident I won't break it. Also the tires r endure so they kick ass 2.

Ok hate to say it, but its a low end bike that is in no way intended for drops, hucking, dirtjumping or anything like that. Alex rims are pretty bottom of the barrel, and these are no exception. If you want drops, hucking and all that step up, do it right and get a Specialized P2 which was DESIGNED for that use.

Selly has a point. Its a low end bike. But geuss what. ITs the best bike at its price. Not all of us have jobs. I worked all summer just to buy mine. Its a great entry level bike. The frame won't break on u
so but it and have a good time. Not everyone here is a millinainare.

P.S. If you look at tthe specialzed 2004 book it says the hardrock sport is for the person looking for a stuntman tough frame on an cappochino pullers paycheck.

Man, if I was going to get a new Hardrock Pro Disk is the way to go. I'd go for one of the new flame paint jobs too. So sweet!

Sorry if I came off like a bike snob, I understand you guys are on budgets (I am too--I dont make much at all working at the shop). I would strongly say consider the P2 if you can afford it (there should be some '04 closeouts NOW), there will be less to upgrade/add off the the bat. Otherwise go for the Pro, the wheelset will last you a lot longer than the Alex stuff. Much better crankset as well.

If you can't get the p2 there's always the p1. It's a single speed so if you're looking for gears you'd have to do a little upgrading but it's MSRP is something like 100$ less than the p2. Check it out. But if you can't afford it go with the hardrock pro. It's a good starter bike if your looking to get into jumping, drops etc especially if you're on a budget.

I understand. But my mom just won't let me buy a bike that is over like 700 dollars. And that sucks! Also, I can't find any p1s or p2s around here. I'll have to do some searching.

check alwaysmad.com's buy/sell forum. there's some guy selling his norco sasquatch frame for $250 (don't know if that's usd or cad). i think it's a 2004 too... can't recall though. maybe if it's still for sale you could grab that and find some components for cheap on ebay or other online stores and build up a nice sweet hardtail that can handle more than what you want to throw at it.

i was considering picking up the frame myself, but my wife would kill me if i got another bike. heh.

I'm not really a bike wiz. I just know the parts, and building a bike...I live in a condo unit, don't have enough space to safely make my bike. I'll upgrade a full bike but thats about it.

hey, I just bought the hardrock pro disc last night (the flames made me buy it) and I was riding around till about 3am in the parking lot of our apartments. Its a nice bike. The fork is reeeeal soft from the beginning. So soft that i need to stiffen it up. But I weigh 230 so I understand...

Hooligan, honestly. I wouldn't do to high of a drop with that. Maybe 2-3ft. to flat Max 5-6 with a good tranny. Drops are more for F/S. But you could still do them. Just harder on the body.

I'm happy with mine, except for the fact that the seat starting squeaking after a couple weeks (fixed that by putting little pieces of tape where the fabric contacts the metal of the seat, problem gone).

I have a tiny little bend in my front wheel, not enough to be noticeable in the ride, but you can see it while the wheel turns. Maybe upgrading the rims would be better...
