Peter's Mountain Trip

Let me first say that this was my first REAL mountain bike trip, the fire roads and construction zones have NOTHING on the shear beauty and magnitude nature quite often has.

When we got there we worked out a game plan, me and five others where going to go for a climb and then take the snake route back. When presented witha a cchoice of a ctuise or a climb I replied "Im up for a climb" boy was i ambitous.

As we started it got tiring quik! As i would find out later, my seat was too low for an efficient climb and even in my granny gear i was having quite some difficulty. Finally we reached the top of mt. everest (not really, just felt like it) As we stood and drank one of the girls who knows the trail quite well turned to me and said "are you warmed up?" WARMED UP!?!??!??!?! YOU HAVE TO BE KIDDING i shouted in my skull, but my facad giggled and said "sure lets go" the outer part of my would get his in a few.....wink wink.

We reached the top and just be fore it was a small cottage that some one was trying to work on, but was fighting assinine hikers asmost of the glass was shattered. From the top floor bay window you could see all the way accross blacksburg and christiansburg, I felt quite small.

The descent was a different story, windey narrow fast and FUN the start was a bit rocky, bit off more than i could chew and my front brakes put me where i belonged.....over and under! No injuries tho, just a bruised ego!

After the best descent of my life we plataeu-ed out, reaching a cross country type trail that lead to the park lot. As i sped allong i heard what copuld ruin someones day.....POP Pffffffffffffffftftftttttttttt. surprisingly i was happy to change the tube, I geuss i was having too much fun to let such a small thing ruin the ride.

Between the flat and the lot was the best part of the whole trip, A six foot female blacksnake. This was my chance to freak out my comrads, and miss elaphe obsoleta put on a show for them, bit hiss struck, every one was freakin but me and the snake!

Now as i sit in my dorm room just waking from a well deserved 3 hr nap my stomach reminds me that i have slept through dinner, and that cann of chef boyarde in the closet is screamin my name.

good luck and ride long
