Trek 4300 vs Giant Rincon
 

Here i am again making decision on 2 bikes,Trek ain't cutting any slack on their bikes,intead,those lbs around me raised the price on most of their popular models,well that's not my question,which bike do you guys prefer and shine lil light on me,thanks.

Trek make a decent bike, but I think you'll get more out of the Giant at that price. Given that Giant is the #1 bicycle manufacturer in the world (3rd most popular in the USA), Giant can afford go provide their customers with equal or better quality components for cheaper than the competition.

I've also found that when comparing Giant bikes to other manufacturers, their bikes also seem to be lighter.

Rincon is TRASH

im sorry, i was thinking about the boulder. the boulder is trash. The rincon is a pretty sturdy entry level bike. a buddy of mine has a 2008 Rincon and he loves it. he says its a bit on the heavy side, but the frame is a tank

Nothing wrong with a Rincon. If there were things "wrong" with a bike, most manufacturers would refrain from putting it into production. Like any other bike, a Rincon is a fair tool for what Giant says it was manufactured for.

As for it being heavy, I'm yet to come across a mountain bike that isn't heavy, aside from some of the carbon fiber variants.

My "commuter" is 24lbs, not to heavy i guess :P

KPS, I wouldn't worry about it too much. RZ and JL are harbouring animosity toward each other carried across from another thread. Just ignore them.

I'd go test ride them. Both will get the job done.

Personally I'm a bit bias against trek. I just don't like the company. But the product is going to be good.

Okay, i noticed some chain rings on some bikes don't have the plastice guard on them, i ride with regular long cargo pants,will the teeth on the ring catches my trouser bottom? I saw it could happen when the wind is blowing the right direction.

Yes. That's a possibility. I don't think it's really a safety concern, but it could tear up your pants. Some people who ride with long pants use a small velcro strap around their ankle on the drive side to keep their pants out of the way while they ride. I ride with long pants too, and while I don't worry about the chain rings, my pants did catch on the bottle cage, so I removed it.

What's the problem with "the company," Trek? Did they do something to you? Trek makes decent bikes.

Well ain't that funny. You must be harboring some animosity, too, because you mentioned it. I don't harbor any animosity towards Johnny Law. Why would I? I'm not the one who has to wake up every morning as Johnny Law.

I'm not a big fan of Trek either. The store near me seems way too corporate..like everything they told me, they read out of a brochure to avoid legal issues or something. But I agree, Trek does make good bikes.

On another note, this whole "animosity" thing with me, Johnny, & RatedZ is getting out of hand. Seriously. We had at it in the other Trek vs. Giant thread, & it's over now. Can we not move on with our lives? And RztedZ, there's no reason to pull more people (4evrplan) into this. I vote that if we can't get the **** over some stupid internet argument, the three of us be banned from the site. Just sayin'.

Also, I would go with the Trek. Nicer components from what I read.

And Johnny, on another note, you might ought to consider providing reasons why a bike is trash in the same post as calling it trash, rather than waiting to be asked why. Otherwise it makes it look like you're simply biased towards Trek, regardless of the bike.

As for the subject of you and Johnny, aka, Ernie and Bert, I couldn't care less about either one of you, so feel free to move on. The two of you were good for laughs for about...a day.

As someone who sold a bunch of Rincons for the past year, they're really great bikes. The paint schemes are great (for 2010 especially), good solid frame design, solid components and disc brakes, it's a great all around mountain bike. The Trek is fine too (I sell those now), but I actually had my eye on a Rincon myself, but then I built up a bike instead.

No, they didn't. They are just "that brand" that everybody and their mother has. And I also don't like that dope feind lance armstrong rides them and they market the **** out of their bikes using him. Just not a big fan. Seems too corporate for me, even though most of the major companies are that way as well.

That's how I feel too. It's a VERY popular brand, & for that I don't like them. Like that popular kid at school who you hate just because you don't think they deserve to be that popular. I prefer to feel cool & edgy with less common brands, like Gary Fisher or Motobecane. (though GF was owned by Trek until a few days ago with it became a part of Trek) Though I'm not one to talk, since tomorrow I'll hopefully be buying a Specialized Hardrock Disc. You just can't beat the price for the components & weight.

How about getting back to my OP? i am about to buy the Rincon.
