Creaking noise coming from Deore shifter/brake area

My ride is a 2010 Giant Anthem with Deore shifters and brakes, I have about 300 miles on it.

When I move my handlebar left to right, there is a loud creaking noise coming from handlebar area. I managed to isolate the noise, it's coming from the left shifter and brake area.

When I loosen the left shifter and left brake lever, and push them upwards, the creaking stops. I then screw them back in their place, keeping about a 3 mm distance between them so they don't rub, and the creaking noise is immediately back. Really strange!

Has anyone had this before?
Any ideas as to what it could be?

Many thanks
Mike

Cable ends.

My bud's Epic had the same problem under the BB, he attacked the cable ends themselves, and solved it.

Thanks, I'll give that a try, lube first and see what happens.
