The 29er Done Right. By . . . guess who?

Now here's one that I could get just a touch enthused about. It has some nice touches and an execution that you'd expect from Yeti getting into the game. The new Big Top 29r:

First of all, it "looks right" - - doesn't look out of proportion or strangely configured up front to accommodate the big hoops. And aluminum front triangle w/carbon stays (a Yeti staple).

On to the nice touches. Tapered headtube:

Looped stays and bolt-on dropouts:

SS dropouts too:

Direct FD mount and even ISCG05 tabs on the BB:

More info here:

And here:

Dig it.

meh

should be all carbon. Aluminum triangle with carbon stays is so 2008.

and WTF is with all the tapered headtubes? Just go to full 1.5 already and be done with it.

geez, and I thought specialized was late getting into the 9er game

that bike sucks.
but it is the most well-balanced looking 29er i've seen...which means it probably rides like crap.

OK, Mom.

For the record, by way of comparison, the Yeti lists for $2,750; Gary Fisher Paragon (Aluminum) for $2,030; GF Superfly (full carbon) for $4,200. For what you're getting with the Big Top, that sounds right in there; plus, you're getting superior Yeti quality, attention to detail, fit-and-finish and an upper-drawer component mix to boot.

I was thinking how nice that bike looks and then saw the price. YIKES. No wonder I like the looks of it.

I have not. If we get to CO this fall, Yeti HQ is on my 'must-stop' list again . . . maybe I can get there in time for their lunch-hour ride.

To be honest, my interest goes much more toward the 575 or the ASR 7.

I watched all the Yeti intro on their web site today and two things of note on the Big Top: short chainstays to give it a more un-29er-like snappiness in the turns; and a comparatively slack 70° head angle. Seems to be one very well-thought-out ride.

And don't forget the best part....

The Yetiman in clown shoes and nose.

How else would you celebrate your big wheeled clown bike?
