Faster 04 Rockhopper Tires

Hi everyone.

I got a new 04 Specialized Rockhopper a month ago and I would like to replace the tires with some that I can get more speed on. The tires that I have on my bike now are Specialized Roll X 26 x 2.0", wire bead. I do most of my riding on the street and light offroad trails. Until I get into more advanced trail riding I would prefer tires that are fast and able to handle minor offroad terrain. I'm a noob here so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

The Roll-X are actually a decent tire but much better suited for offroad usage. Maybe look at a semi-slick. I run a narrow semi-slick in all conditions on the rear of my singlespeed. It rolls fast, and if you know what you are doing its manageable in almost all conditions on the trail.

That's been my experience, too. I wasn't sure how it would work (putting semi's on one of my bikes that I planned on riding mostly on-road and light trails) but I've found them to be good performers in some pretty rough stuff.

i too have a 04 rockhopper, i found the roll x great for everything but my on road rides so i got a set of Kenda Kross Plus, they are super smooth on the street and much faster, and i have taken them off road with out problems as long as its not wet and muddy..

Id probably go with Maxxis High Roller Semi Slicks. Like you said, good rolling and the knobbies are there for off road!

p.s. nismo driver- is that Borat as your avatar?

LOL :D, that's definitely Borat! When you ditch the Roll Xs, bear in mind Specialized tire sizes are weird. I bought a set Roll X 2.0s recently and had to sell 'em; they were more like 2.3s and didn't clear my chain stays enough :(.
