I finally got my almost new forks assembled and on the bike 
. The forks are 10 year old Pace RC35s and are the same as I had when my bike was fairly new. They cost £67 on eBay and £140 for new crown, bolts, steerer, elastomers, headset shim and brake bosses; luckily Pace keep new spares for all their forks. The stanchions (hard chromed cromoly) and steerers (carbon-kevlar weave) are the only original bits but, hey, what was I to do .
I've been out a few times and I love these forks
. They have only 1-2" of travel but that suits my XC riding style and doesn't affect the geometry of the frame too much. I think most of have seen the frame before. It's a Dave Yates fillet brazed and lugged Columbus Chrom Or tubing frame with mostly RaceFace and XT bits. Following a recent chain stay replacement, I had it repainted in sky blue which I like (also kinda retro, I think).
Now, I've got suspension, I think I'll switch out the grips for my clear rubber Fred Salmons. The Specialized BGs are actually really comfy but I just think they look sooo gay...
Lastly, my brother and I are finally clubbing together for a 2 bike car carrier so we can finally escape the confines of where we live which is mucho, mucho boring!
BTW, the reason it is clean is that it lives indoors on hangers above my new leather sofa so when we come back with the bikes absolutely clagged in good ol' English winter mud, I break out the cleaning brush and hose pipe and clean her up! If I ever remember, I'll post a post-ride pic one day, honest

Very sweet.........love that color. One thing I would have done is run standard canti's instead of linear pulls as your frame and fork have hangers. Nice rig ......

Nice, I like the front brake\ brace mounted reversed, don't think I've seen that b'fore..nice and clean upfront.

Yup, it's a 1" steerer. The fork was a 1 1/4" which is why I had to buy all the new bits. Thanks for all the comments, she really is a sweet ride - classic steel, very responsive and stiff but lively at the same time .
