what do you guys wear when it's cold but you still want to ride?

it was about 47 here this morning so i rocked some jeans, hiking boots, insulated gloves, winter jacket, and a fleece cap on the trails this morning.
the gloves and boots sucked, and the jacket is really baggy without the liner in it.
basically this without the snow and with some thick gloves:

what do you guys like & why?

Bib tights (different thickness based on temp), sidi diablos, PI winter gloves, Ibex hat (Neoprene hat for supercold), Nike cycling jacket and layers underneath.

Cold in the Vegas area is 40 degrees. Shorts and a couple of good sweatshirts. Summer is another question. You can only get so naked and then you have to out ride the guys with the white coats.

I think there was another thread about this last year or so that was pretty good, just fyi.

I'm pretty hot natured and sweat like a banshee, so it has to be around the 20s for me to bust out the big guns, but that consists of simply windpants on top of shorts, then under armour cold gear top with a long-sleeved t-shirt and fleece outer jacket. Can use under armour full-face mask if necessary, or some more UA bottoms if for some reason I were riding in the arctic. Then just some winter pearl izumi gloves. Hands still get cold, as do my feet.

In 47 degree weather, I'll roll out in work pants, running shoes, Turf King thermal gloves, Marmot Precip shell and probably a shortsleeve tee. That's kinda on the cusp of where I'd pick a longsleeve tee, however. Thin headband to keep the ears outta the elements, no way I could hack a fleece toque, eh!

That cold when it's 47 deg out, I'll wear big knickers, undershirt, long sleeve jersey, wind vest, cycling cap under my helmet and wind proof gloves. Yeah, unlike many who posted before me, I suscribe to the spandex cycling gear sect. Wearing straight up street wear while mountain bikings is a foreign concept to me.

Same deal here. It's hardly ever colder than about 40 degrees here, and it's even more rare that it snows. Usually I don't need anything more than gloves, a light jacket, and knee warmers.

I think a good starting point is to get your first layer to be a quality moisture wicking product. Keep the air around your torso dry and then keep the air from chilling your bones. The layers you need are determined by the actual temperature. I rode on a dry -10 degree day in Goodland, KS one Thanksgiving. Its all about layers and good gloves. Keep the torso dry.

I find that for temps here, which can be down to the 30s or 40s or so, I'll wear a long sleeved jersey and tights in the morning, usually going back to shorts and short sleeved shirt by mid-ride.
