One has multiple releases???
Sorry, I couldn't resist. I think the single has 7 degrees of float whereas the multi has like 17, but I can't remember exactly.

With the single release cleat you have to rotate the heel of your foot out away from the bicycle for the cleat to release. On a multi release cleat you don't have to rotate your foot as far and it is possible to release the cleat by pulling up on the cleat. The obvious advantage is easier disengagement. The obvious dis-advantage is easier disengagement.

As recounted in other threads, I believe the single-release cleats are a safer bet. My experience with multi-release cleats is that they pop off the pedals at the most inappropriate times.

That about sums it up. Go with old-skool single-release. Also, wear your hair long, and buy a pair of checkerboard slip-on Vans.
