Just wondering?..I recently switched back to matched xc tires, I was IRC Mythos XC 1.95 Kevlar rear and Mythos XC II 2.10 REAR front, the Mythos II rear has a cornering tread and I got even more hight with the knobbies.
Kinda liked it, masssive rollover ability..but, I'll admit a bike fasion flaw. Looks.
The rear wheel is red wall, and I had a chance to match the tires when swapping rims with an U.S. mtb^er who stayed with us, and I did.
Well, I have chance to get a cheap\ good 'bigwheel'..some IRC DH tire, massive. But at this time. I only have one good front rim, otherwise I'd just swap wheels for different rides....
Should I go for the monster tire? It'll look like '____', it's black, rears red.
Can you convince me? Is it as different as I remember?
Also I found I had to use a rounder profile tire to keep my handling in high speed cornering- mostly this oversizing is done with flat profile DH tires right?

I don't know. I use it in dh and really fast courses for better turning. Does it apply to xc...likely not as you aren't moving at the speeds of dh courses or freeride trails 'generally'.
I ran a tioga white tiger in the front for a short time after I bought a new wheel. This is a round tire. I found in hardpacked condition it hooked up better than anything I have ever used before it. However, once I got on wet skinnies or deep rock gardens I had some issues with washout that I normally didn't have.
Tires and what sizes and profiles are specific to a riders ability, riding style (are you over the front or rear, do you lean the bike or use the handlebar more, are you going fast or is it the north shore style riding) If you are finding a small wheel up front works...why break it, right
As for bike fashion...who cares. I still run my spoke protector on my rear wheel...why...cause I am too lazy to take it off and I would dare anyone that meets me to make fun of it to my face haha (and as for them breaking, I ride some pretty aggressive dh and it is still there after a full season and over 25 DAYS down whistler mountain)...
Cheers

Well, I DID like it when I was bombing (light, carpet bombing...) but i'm going more into technical rock, balance and hop stuff (equal tires seem to work better.) But it's a phase, I will get back into single track and hill riding when I know my body is completely healed.
I have a hard time lifting the bigwheels for climbing, I like the lift and plant of this xc tire...Maybe I should move my weight back more, I'm riding more areo-xc over the bars.
Ya- I don't care too much about fashion, I ride an ugly\ fast bike. Maybe I just ride soo fast so nobody can see how nasty it looks..hehe.
Mael: how much size difference do you run? And what rear tire?

Trials stuff? Victoria right ...yeah light wheel up front would make a difference...
DH - 2.7 front 2.5 rear
OR sometimes
2.5 front, 2.5 rear
XC/trails - 2.5 or 2.3 front and 2.3 or 2.5 rear (usually smaller)

"But if this is what you are used to I wouldn't start changing your riding position too much haha"
I do daily?
-Its really not too hard to drop the seat and jump, but the frame has a less angled toptube than downhill bikes so I tend to run it as a xc bike (+ it's faster). I'll ride up and areo to the trails and then drop the seat, lower the tire psi and do a little down.
Hell, I just need a freeride bike...I think I might sell my BMW to finance.
Sucks.

Hahaha...yeah it does sound like you need a slightly more slack geometry. Either that or stick a long travel fork on the xc bike and hope it doesn't snap the head tube
