Winter time is coming and I am going to have to commute to many different schools in the Philly region in nasty conditions. I own a 2005 Giant Boulder that needs repairs. I am going to reuse the front and rear derailleurs for now, but need a new rear wheel cog cassette cluster, new 7 speed break/shifter pairs and a chain.

Before I stopped using my mountain bike (when I had purchased a single speed ) my chain was jumping and often falling off the cogs sometimes. I remember previously when that had happened the LBS said I required a new rear cog cassette, so I took it as initiative to finally get the single speed I wanted for a while. Now that the winter months approaching, I want to switch back to the mountain bike for a while.

I would appreciate any input, determining whether or not these parts will work with my bike.

So, do these parts look compatible with the bike I linked from bikepedia? Or, do you have any cheap solution alternative parts that I should consider? I am just graduating college, so my budget isn't too great, that's why for now I just need parts that work.

I apologize for seeming desperate, well actually I am. Does anyone who is viewing this thread have any comments/suggestions? Anything would be greatly appreciated.

Are you sure you have a rear hub that takes a freewheel instead of a cassette?

If you are certain it's a freewheel, then I'm pretty sure all the things you linked to will wort just fine. Why do you need new shifters?

Also, you could try asking in the mechanics forum as well. Maybe a poster there would have first hand experience with your bike.

My old right brake lever stopped working. It would either not shift or just jump down several gears throwing my chain off. I used it for commuting and was pretty aggressive/careless with the bike, so I can't complain.

edit: Thank you very much rankin116, I thought the components might work, but just wanted to see if anyone else could verify (more minds are better than one!). I also rechecked my casette, and it does seem to be a thread on freewheel.
